Meera's pov:

"When should I give you that hoodie back?" I asked James over the phone.

"How's before Physics?"

"That works."

"Okay,"

I sighed before hanging up. Two weeks of them dating and this bitch just realized I had his hoodie? Un-fucking-believable.

I had thirty minutes before I had to go to sociology. Inhaling deeply, I pressed a few fingers onto my forehead.

"Sopranos come back to your seats and let's go over measure thirty three to sixty eight in 'Lean on me'. Altos and baritones you may quietly do other work." Mrs. Hess called.

I barely got through the twenty minutes of fine tuning that section of 'Lean on me'.

The bell rang dismissing all of us and I headed to the lower commons with a heavy head and stomach.

I see James waiting beneath the staircase leading to the math hallway. I grab the hoodie from my bag and walk a bit faster towards him.

"Here's your hoodie," I pressed the article of clothing in his hands.

"Thanks," I turned to leave but he stopped me.

"Meera wait." I pressed my eyes closed and slowly turned back. "Yes?"

"Here," He produced a claw clip and a necklace. I realized I had given him both items on that date.

Gingerly taking those items back, I bit my lip down, refraining any tears. "Thanks, I completely forgot about these."

"What are you two doing here?" Emerson popped out of nowhere, her tone curt, laced with questioning and annoyance.

A 'Fuck' dropped from my mouth and I winced.

"I'm giving him his thing back and he was giving me my things back." I decided to just get it over with.

"What do you mean he's giving your things back?" She questioned, her voice getting louder. "What the hell is going on?"

"Ems I got my things and he got his, I'm gonna leave now." I back away and turn to leave but a steel grip pulls me back.

The audacity of her-

"Let go." I grit out quietly, trying not to attract lookers. I could already see one person in the distance from my peripheral vision.

"No. What the hell is going on here?" I cannot believe her right now.

"Newsflash babe, I don't want your piece of shit boyfriend or a relationship with him. If you don't remember already, I went on a fucking date with him and he gave me his hoodie. Willingly. I'm here to return his shit because he "forgot" about it until now." I genuinely start seeing fucking red in my eyes. "And get your fucking hands off my wrist. Now."

She lets go and moves away, opening her mouth to say something. "No, don't even say anything. I'm done with you both. Please don't talk to me anymore."

"Meera..." James muttered, trailing off. "Don't say that."

"James, first of all, fuck you. Second, who gave you the right to speak? You started this whole problem." I narrowed my slightly glossy eyes at him. "And Emerson? Fuck you too. I might've been okay with him pulling this kind of shit, but you? You were supposed to be my fucking friend. Friends don't do this to each other."

I spun around and walked out from under the stairs. Emerson and James could be heard arguing from below. I almost screamed when I saw Wes standing outside, leaning against the wall. He pushed off the wall and diminished the distance between us.

"I'm so fucking proud of you." He mumbled into my hair, putting his arms around me.

"Thank you." I muttered against his shirt, trying not to cry. He hasn't hugged me like this since we were little kids.

"We gotta run to physics before we're late," he said pulling away but still leaving one arm slung over my shoulders and we bolted to class, barely making it.

Wes and I sat down, still heaving from that run. The teacher raised a brow but didn't say anything.

"Okay, start out with a review of last class and in twenty minutes we will move in from that."

I tapped Wes's thigh. "Does he mean the first half of last class's review or the exam review?"

He sucked in a sharp breath and shrugged off my hand before answering. "Let's just do both."

"Okay," I nodded, pulling open my laptop.

He pulled out his own laptop and another book. "Here. This one's also for you."

He handed me a copy of Pride and Prejudice. "Is this your copy?"

"Yeah but I have four of them total and two are annotated and two are just the pretty covers and an original. That one's fully annotated for you to keep." He added.

I let out a fleeting gasp, "Is this the one you were annotating the other week?"

He hummed in response. "I think you'll like my annotations and footnotes."

I marveled over the cover and the "P.S." not inside. I started flipping through the book to see what he had written. His handwriting was minuscule and pretty, he had even used the exact color-matched book tabs.

Best. Gift. Ever.

I threw my hands around his neck and gave him a bear hug. He completely froze under me before relaxing a bit.

"Thank you so much!" I said near his ear.

We went back to doing our work. Near the end of our twenty minute review, Emerson and James tumbled into class, emitting strange looks from everyone. Wes and I looked at each other almost immediately with the same look of annoyance filling out features.

The teacher pulled them aside and gave them a lecture on skipping, while Wes and I held back so many snickers and chuckles.

I hadn't held back my laughter like this in a while. A realization dawned on me and my insides warmed up. Wes did all of this for me-

He bought me books and gave me a hug. He was holding his laughter in more than I was. He was the one there for me when I was going off on James and Emerson.

I sucked in a breath and brushed all of those thoughts away. What is happening to me?

I do however smile to myself. Today has been eventful but in a good way. I told both James and Ems to fuck off and leave me alone for good. I got a hug AND an annotated book. It seems like a win to me.
