Today was the first day of classes at my university and I was beyond nervous. I spent ages picking out my outfit for my first day.

I had my bag on and my file in one hand. I held onto my warm cup of coffee in my other hand as I made my way onto the campus.

I remembered my brother's words from the other day in the park to boost my morale. I searched around and finally found my first class.

Thankfully I had left my apartment early in case I got lost which I did. I scanned the room to find a good spot to sit in.

Alayna and Maira texted me a while ago saying they were on their way to the class. So I was in charge of finding a good place for the three of us to sit.

The room was small and had a little stage at the front. There were only about thirty chairs in the room which were spread around the class.

There were no tables in the class probably because this was going to be a very hands-on class.

I finally opted for the seats in the middle of the room. There was some time before the start of the class so there weren't many people around.

I noticed a guy near me scrolling through his phone. I decided to introduce myself. "Hi" I smiled softly.

He slowly turned to me. His eyes moved up and down as if scanning my entire self. "Hey" He said bluntly before turning back to his phone.

I scoffed at his rude behaviour and leaned back in my seat. "What an ass" I whispered to myself. "I can hear you" He said with his eyes still fixed on his phone.

I mimicked his words silently behind him and rolled my eyes at his behaviour. I saw my friends walk into the classroom and my mood quickly changed.

"Hey guys!" I greeted them. "Damn I really thought we were gonna be late" Maira said. "Oh would you relax" Alayna scolded her as she sat next to me.

"Next time I'm not waiting for you to get up" Maira sat next to her and couldn't help but laugh at their bickering.

The professor started the class as soon as the room filled with excited students, ready for their first day.

The professor introduced himself. "I don't enjoy all the formality of Mr or Sir so I would appreciate it if you'd just call me Derek"

He seemed chill and laid back which was good because his class was quite important. "Alright so this is an introductory class so let's get to the introductory part"

He instructed us to come up to his little stage and introduce ourselves by stating our name, where we come from and why we chose acting.

A pretty mandatory ice breaker for first days. A couple students went up and introduced themselves.

"Okay how about you next?" Derek pointed at me and I nodded. I walked up to the little stage and turned towards the class.

"Hi guys, I'm Suhana Khan and I'm from India-" "Oo Jai Hind!" Some random white boy shouted. "Ookay then" I awkwardly laughed.

"And the reason I chose acting was because I was inspired by my dad. He's an actor as well in Bollywood and watching him on set was one of my favourite things to do growing up. All I want is to be as great of an actor as him one day"

I finished my introduction and everyone clapped just like we did for the students that went before me.

"Hey Suhana what's your father's name?" One of the students asked. "Yeah I love Bollywood movies" Another one said.

"Oof you guys DDLJ am I right?" I snorted when someone mentioned DDLJ at the mere mention of Bollywood. How very typical of them.

"Well my dad is the very actor who starred in DDLJ, Shah Rukh Khan" There was an outburst in the room.

"Woah you actually look a lot like him" One said. "Oh right we saw his picture at your apartment" Another one said.

"You're the girl who threw the party" There were too many comments going around which made me feel a little awkward.

"Okay okay that's enough. Welcome to the class Suhana. Take your seat" I was grateful for Derek for stopping the comments.

I thanked him and walked off the stage. As I walked past the stranger I noticed he rolled his eyes and he looked annoyed.

I didn't understand what his problem was with me. What did I do to him that was so bad? Say a casual hi?

After a few students including Alayna and Maira, he went up the stage. "Hey" He spoke in a rough voice just like before. "My name is Rohan Singh"

"I'm from India as well" Judging from his accent, I could tell he was from Delhi. I knew Delhi too well to not know how they converse.

"The reason I joined acting is because I want to have the ability to portray various characters that people can relate to and bring to light topics that are not talked about enough especially in India"

Despite his rude behaviour towards me, I was quite impressed by his interest in acting. I thought for a moment that I judged this guy too quickly.

That was until his smart mouth decided to add in, "I don't wanna just act because I saw daddy on set" He walked off the stage and took his seat.

I was left shocked and embarrassed because now everyone was staring at me. Alayna held me hand but I shook my head.

I did not need sympathy. I needed to work on proving myself. Not just to this asshole but to everyone who thinks I can't do anything.
