My Favourite Time of Day

I like morning baths that smell like vanilla or berries, with mountains and valleys and landscapes of bubbles. The sun rises in the east, and the window catches all the light and gives it to me. I sparkle or I glisten under warm running water and anxieties vanish and rough nights vanish and morning brings peace after all.

I like afternoons spent wandering across town, under blue skies and suns that burn. I like days when burns are souvenirs and friends are easily made. Shade; we need shade, and money, and music, and stories to tell. Late mornings fade so beautifully into long afternoons.

I think I like sunsets most of all. Pink or orange or purple or yellow. Rainbows or shining gold. This is infinite. This is potential. Sometimes out my bedroom window, sometimes over rippling lakes. This; this is my soul.

And then I like nights. More aimless walking and needless laughing, neighboring windows slamming shut, and the stars. Talk of danger, but dreams of infinity. I don't know one star from another, but I know beauty, and I know peace.
