I. I will trust him with my heart long before he asks for it. He will know my dreams and fears, and love them as part of me, and when I throw out all my emotions, flaws, and failures, he will stay. I will know I love him, and know he loves me, perhaps before we even dare to confess it.
II. He won't ask me out, but rather will admit that he's interested in me. In this way, he will suggest a future and commitment, instead of an experiment. He will want to be with me for the long term, and not just the short term. I will let him.
III. He will learn to drive with me in his car. He will learn to drive smoothly; to take the turns softly to keep my nauseous stomach at peace. I will sit in the passenger seat with the window rolled down and my hand outside, and he will not stop me, even when we are on the fastest and loudest roads. He will not mind when I switch the radio station back and forth until I find a song I like, and he will take his time driving home at night so that I can rest in the peace of the stars and the streetlights.
IV. He will offer me eternity with a ring for my left hand. I will take it.
V. He will play guitar in the living room, and I will smile. I say this because that's the way my father is, and I cannot imagine a home without the quiet sound of strumming dancing through the halls. In addition, he will sing me love songs and learn to play my favourites.
VI. He will dance with me in the kitchen. He will dance with me all the time. He will dance with me to movie soundtracks, and musical numbers, and swing music, and love songs. He will dance with me because I love it, even if he doesn't, and he will tell me he loves the way I smile when I dance. And so I will smile.
VII. People will know that we are together. Even out in public, where we will be respectable, even if we don't so much as hold hands, everyone will know. They will know that he is mine, and I am his. We will be so radiant with love for each other that no one could miss it. We will be a statement, not a question.
VIII. We will never doubt each other. When my world crumbles, he and God will be my constants. I will be his. We will hold each other steady in the storm, and we will not let go for anything. We promised each other forever, and we will not break our promises.
