JUNGKOOK STARED AT ANDREA FROM across the ring watching as she pulled the black, leather Everlast boxing gloves on to her hands and secured the straps around her wrists. There was initially something off-putting about her, a strange sense of deception that he knew he shouldn't feel but he simply couldn't shake. But the more he stared at her, the more that vague feeling of distrust faded into obscurity and the more he came to accept that it was just Andrea. Nothing about her has changed since he saw her. She was still pretty, strong, and lean with utter femininity still expelling from her.
And Jungkook doesn't feel as uneasy as before because of that air of familiarity. She isn't an entirely new person. She's just as she's always been and probably always will be. Just because he now knows something about her doesn't mean that it changes the foundations of who she is as a person.
"We're gonna work on your reflexes. You need to be faster than him, predict his next moves before he does it." It seems like she's asking for a lot, Jungkook will even say so. "I'm sorry if you're not in the same dimension as the rest of us, but I can't read minds."
Andrea pulled the strap tight around her wrist before making her way into the center of the ring with Jungkook. They stood toe to toe, barely having to look up or down at each other. They were pretty much at eye level. "I'm not asking you to read minds, I'm asking you to read bodies." She reached out and gently punched his chest. "Everyone has a physical sign of what they're about to do before they do it." It seems obvious, but it often goes over the head of a lot of people.
"For example, a simple punch." She got into a proper stance, left foot forward, stronger side back. "First they have to know where they're going to land the punch. They will always look for an opening and they will always find it, no one can defend all parts of their body at the same time." She shifts her weight to the other side, turning her body so that the right side was forward. "They'll shift stance and either go straight out, to the side, or under." Of course, she was going slow so he could see how many steps there were to actually throw a punch. It all happens so fast in the ring.
"Your job is to be aware of your openings and defend them. You block, dodge, or counterstrike." As she extended her arm out to punch him in the chest again, Jungkook moved to the side to avoid it. "Now, you just have to do it faster." She said it like it was simply that easy. It wasn't nearly as easy as she claimed it to be. It would take a disgusting amount of time for him to actually get even the slightest bit of a grasp on it but Jungkook prided himself on being able to pick things up quickly.
It was simple. Watch Andrea's movements, predict what she's going to do, and block it. Easier said than done. Maybe she just wants the opportunity to hit him a lot.
"If you watch JImin's other rematches, he uses the same few openers. So I'll do some of his and throw in some of my own." Despite her distaste for his arrogance, Andrea only had his best interest in mind. Believe it or not, she didn't want to see her efforts go to waste and watch him get beat until he was just a bloody smear on the canvas.
