ANDREA HAS NEVER REALLY LIKED THE idea of facing her problems head-on. She seems like this tough person, ready to punch down any problem that decides to rear its ugly head at her. In all honesty, she uses boxing as a way to avoid the struggles that face her. Andrea wanted to become strong so that no one could hurt her. She could make herself feel safe in a way that she's never felt before. No man besides her brother has let her surrender all defenses around him. No one has told her that they will protect her, that she could call him in the dead of night and in minutes he'll be right there with her.
And it all stems from the biggest problem she's chosen to avoid.
To say that her relationship with her father was strained was parallel to calling the sun a slightly bigger lightbulb or a tiger an overgrown cat. Andrea would much rather get kicked in the balls with a metal boot than place her heart on the line again before him. And yet, for the first time since he left, he wanted to see her. He said it himself. She was no longer going out of her way to contact him.
Realistically, this was too good to be true and still, Andrea found herself dreaming of an idealistic world where he'd apologize for walking out on them and fully accept her as his daughter. Hopefully, then, she'll stop seeking out men who treat her like shit, who don't want her as she is. For as long as she can remember, Andrea always believed sex was how she'd liberate herself, how she'd conquer her femininity. If men wanted her then how could she possibly not be woman enough? She wanted it for all the wrong reasons. The adoration of a man so she can feel like a woman.
So instead of putting on her big girl panties and confronting whether to see her father for the first time in nearly a decade, Andrea chose to pretend the choice hadn't even presented itself to her. She threw herself into training with Jungkook and even then she still wasn't 100% with him. He could see it. They were supposed to be working on his blocking and dodging but it seemed more like she was trying to become his personal punching bag.
He tapped her shoulder with his glove. "Hey...you still in there?" She had completely zoned out on him which was unusual. Usually, he was the one to completely drown out what she was saying. She'd knock on his head as if trying to confirm it was indeed not hollow and tell him, "if you aren't going to pay attention, you can kiss your title goodbye."
Andrea blinked once, twice, and the light of consciousness returned into the dark heavens in her eyes. She cleared her throat abruptly and nodded. "Yeah, I'm fine. Sorry." Her hands were up once more, ready to get on with sparring. This was the last thing they needed to do for the day, then they'd jog back to Jungkook's house. Maybe they'd go up and fuck or they'd be too sore by then to even think about putting themselves through such strain.
Jungkook's hands remain idle to his side. His eyebrows pinch with concern and those large, doe-ish eyes which look all too innocent for a man like himself show the reflection of guilt. His lips tug and a stressed dimple shows itself to her. "Is it about dinner? What I offered?" He's been stressing over it since his conversation with JIn. He put into perspective how fucked up it was. Of course, he had good intentions, but intentions don't really matter do they? If you accidentally kill someone and say "well I didn't mean to kill them", that doesn't automatically exempt you from murder.
