A WEEK FROM CHRISTMAS AND THE CITY was deeply infected with jolly cheer. Children counted down the days until they could finally tear open their presents which they would undoubtedly break by the end of January from overuse. And while Andrea would usually be excited to see what kind of corny-ass gift Malik would give her this year, she couldn't this year. Because finally, she's made up her mind.

It was a hard decision to come to. She's been consulting her mother, Malik, Seokjin, even fucking Jungkook on the sparing occasion, and despite their various answers. They all ended on the same page.

"Whatever you think is best for you."

So Andrea finally sat and consulted herself. What does she think will be best for her to heal? This isn't about her father and appeasing him. It was about following a path that will help her finally move on with her fucking life. It's been 10 years, so much time for him to see the error of his ways and try to get back on good terms with the daughter he had abandoned.

Don't get her wrong, Andrea doesn't plan on forgiving him on the spot (that is, if she even chooses to go and meet up with him). If he truly wants her forgiveness, he'd definitely have to put in the work to earn it.

But would seeing him on the basis of a small chance that he was ready to accept her be worth the trauma of having to see him face to face?

Sort answer? No. Long answer? Hell no.

Whatever trauma she got from him, her seeking out of men who will always hurt her, her usage of men as self-harm, all of that could be fixed with some therapy and a bit of re-evaluation of some of her life choices. She didn't need daddy's love and affection to make her feel whole. She didn't need anyone to make her feel whole. Andrea just had to learn to be content with herself.

"Tell him I said no." Andrea knew Malik still spoke to their father on a semi-regular basis, had his phone number and everything. She wasn't mad at him about it. At the end of the day, he was desperate for the same fatherly affection that she was and she couldn't blame him for that.

Malik takes his gaze from the display case they stand in front of, looking for a nice present for their mother. "You sure?" He doesn't say it in a way that questions his decision, just like he's confirming that this is the choice she wants to make. He'd back her up in whatever she chose to do, even offered to go with her if she chose to meet up with him. He had her back.

Andrea nods confidently. "I'm positive. I'm almost fucking 30 years old, I've gone this long without him." She doesn't need anything from him, not really. Closure would be nice but it isn't required for her to live her life just fine. Once again, therapy was an option. Eventually, she'd find a man who was completely alright with her as she is, just alright is absolutely perfect to her. He'd want the best for her, for her to do what made her happiest in life.
