"bokuto, are you done packing?" nana asked from downstairs. she already had her suitcase and backpack packed and done.
"yeah! almost!" he shouts back.
the two were currently the last ones to leave the house. nana was just on her phone, with kimchi's carrier bag next to her.
she was getting somewhat impatient with bokuto taking too long, yelling for him to hurry up or else the traffic would be bad on the way home. bokuto finally got done packing and hurried downstairs.
rin left in the morning since he had to drive his car home, leaving his twin sister with bokuto.
"nana," bokuto asks when they entered the car.
nana looks up at him, "yeah?"
"just wondering but what do your parents expect from me?"
she tilts her head in confusion. "what do you mean by that?"
"like, do i have to act a certain way in front of them?"
she shook her head and told him to get on the car, "no, just be yourself around them. my parents aren't exactly the type to be disappointed when a kid isn't formal or anything." they left the gated community. "and besides, i think they'll like it better if you were just yourself."
the two got to the bridge that connects the small island to the mainland.
bokuto stared outside his window. this was the first time he was celebrating the holidays with a family that wasn't his. he knows that his father doesn't necessarily like nanashima haru — or the nanashima family in general — so this feels wrong to him.
"you've been quiet, thinking 'bout something hard?" nana asked as she took a hit from her juul.
bokuto let out a hum, "i don't know, head empty right now."
"well, we're almost there. do you want a room for yourself later?"
"can i sleep with you?"
nana looks over at bokuto, who was still staring out the window. she smiles to herself, "look who's attached." she teases. "can't sleep without me now?"
"please shut up,"
she let out a small laugh as they pulled up to the nanashima estate. they got out of the car. nana let kimchi out of her carrier so she can roam around the property.
"don't mind her, she'll come back for dinner."
the two walked in the main building. marble floors and chandeliers were the first thing bokuto noticed as he walked in. he's saw nana's brothers all in the living room, doing their own thing; and a little boy on the couch.
"we're home!" nana calls out to her family. the boy heard her and ran straight into nana's arms. both let out a squeal.
rin walked up to the two of them, "welcome."
"nice place you guys got here."
"we get that a lot."
after some introductions and awkward smiles, nana put down her nephew and looked around the house. "where's mom and dad?"
"at the market getting stuff for tomorrow." kuze answered.
nana made an 'oh' face and went upstairs, telling bokuto to follow her. on their way to nana's room, bokuto had a question for her.
"your parents do the shopping? not the maids?"
"usually the maids do but none of them are here starting today."
