Chapter 22: Uh-Oh

Cato wanted to beat himself up because of what he just said to Carol. Stupid, Cato thought. why'd you do that to her?! He was so mad. I take what I said back. I want her right here, right now. What would happen to her? This is all my fault! He madly thought.

"Mags," Cato began. "Finnick.

"Yes?" Both Mags and Finnick answered at the same time.

"May I take a look around?," Cato spoke. "to see if there are good challenges to do at 4?"

"You've got one hour." Finnick replied.

"Alright!" Cato shouted as he ran towards the main village.

"Where could Carol be?" Cato said in a soft voice, but he wasn't loud.

Suddenly, Cato decided to ask a few citizens.

"Hello there." Cato introduced himself as he was talking to a black-haired teenager who was a girl.

"Oh my gosh." The blackie responded quite surprised.

"What are you 'oh my gosh-ing' about?" Cato asked a bit annoyed.

"You're Cato from District 2," The black-haired girl began. "the one who fought in the 74th Games?"

"Yes. That's me." Cato spoke.

"Madeline May." Maddie said as she stretched out her own to shake Cato's.

Cato wanted to not shake Madeline's hand, but since he wanted to be the man Carol wanted him to be, he decided to shake it.

"By the way Cato," Maddie continued as she blinked her eyes flirtatiously. "would you like to get some coffee from the shop and go swimming after?"

This made Cato think of how it would affect Carolyn. It's just a cup of coffee and swimming afterwards, Cato began thinking. But if Carol sees me... Cato thought. Maybe she won't be there and she'll understand.

Cato had his answer. It was a no in his head, but to his mouth, it was a "Yes."

"Hooray!" Madeline cheered in delight.

Cato laughed, but it was a fake laugh.

"Well what are we waiting for," Maddie asked. "let's go!"

Cato had no choice but to follow her.
