Rain poured down heavily on the sidewalk below as the two men rushed from their car to the shelter of a storefront awning"Jesus, where the hell did all this come from?!" Kevin shouted over a roar of thunder
"I think we made God angry with what we did in that shower!"
"Christ, that Catholic guilt ain't leavin' you anytime soon, ey, Dollface?" Kevin scoffed, removing his suit jacket and holding it up over both of their heads to shield them "we can't walk a half block like this"
"Well, there's no parking for the next mile, so.."
"Shit.. New plan?"
"New plan... what about this place? Looks nice enough?"
"I think I caught tetanus, lookin' through the window."
"Oh, come on, you can go one day without your fancy meals..."
"...Polish food?" Kevin's face contorted
"It'll be good!! Come on, you and I both know you aren't gonna let that fancy suit get wet much longer.."
"...Fine."
Victorious, Connor opened the front door of the restaurant and the two of them scurried in, away from the rain
"It'll do you some good to eat at a working man's restaurant for once.."
"Yeah, yeah.."
A young, blonde-haired waitress approached with laminated menus in hand
"Gentlemen, what can I- ...Kevin? Is that you?"
Kevin whipped his head around to address the server, his expression falling as he did so
"...Hi."
"..is this a friend of yours?" Connor smiled, obliviously
"Uh.. somethin' like that.."
"Something like that? Wow.." she scoffed
"..Are you gonna introduce me, Kev?"
"McKinley, this is Dorothy Kowalski.. We... used to know each other."
"Know each other? That's what you're gonna call it? ..Your friend here spent the night with me then never called again" She turned her attention to Connor, arms crossed tightly in front of her striped dress "I've been calling you, you never pick up, Kevin, we have to talk!"
"..when was this?" Connor's stomach twisted
"A long time ago" Kevin assured him "I told ya this place was a bad idea, let's go."
"Just like you, isn't it, running away again? Is that what you do, you sleep with girls, tell them you'll call, you'll meet their folks, then you'll abandon them?"
"Sometimes, Dorothy, sometimes" he forced a mocking smile on his face "We're leavin'."
"You are such an asshole, Kevin!"
"Ey, don't you talk to me like that, Blondie.. it was one night, months ago! I'm seein' somebody."
"Some other Floozie dumb enough to give you the time of day?"
"Whatever.. Mckinley, we're leaving." Kevin snapped his fingers and pointed toward the door before leading the way
With crossed arms and an apologetic glance toward the young woman, Connor followed.
"...do you do that a lot?" He mumbled after they exited to the sidewalk
"Do what?" Kevin held up his jacket to shield them once again from the heavy rain
