January, February, March. Three months in a row that her courses had been missed. Three months in a row that she had been feeling off.
Olivia smiled to herself as she counted her three missed courses for the fourth time in the last 15 minutes. She knew, without a doubt, that she was with child. She was waiting for the doctor to come and confirm her suspicions before she said a word to anyone. She was wanting to make sure she was in fact with child before saying anything to James.
John, the Butler of Norfolk Manor, poked his head into the drawing room and smiled. "Your grace, Dr. Thompson has arrived."
Olivia returned his smile, putting her calendar aside. "Thank you John, send him in please."
Jon stepped aside and allowed Dr. Zachary Thompson to walk into the room. He was a short slightly pudgy gentleman with dark brown hair and spectacles covering his brown eyes. He was wearing a black coat over a white shirt black trousers and black shoes. In his hand was a brown leather briefcase. He smiled and gave her a bow. "Good morning your grace."
Olivia. "Good morning Dr. Thompson, thank you for coming on such short notice. I have not said a word to my husband or anyone else about my possible suspicion, I was wanting you to confirm it."
Dr. Thompson nodded, setting down his briefcase and taking out a few tools. "Of course your grace, I shall confirm everything momentarily. I will need to ask you a few questions if that's all right."
Olivia. "Yes of course."
Dr. Thompson. "How long has it been since your last courses?"
Olivia. "My last courses had arrived in December. As of today I am three months overdue."
Dr. Thompson noted. "All right, any breast tenderness or nausea?"
Olivia. "Yes, but the nausea is only in the mornings."
Dr. Thompson. "Any vomiting?"
Olivia. "Very little, and only in the mornings as well."
Dr. Thompson. "Very good your grace. I will now need a urine sample from you."
Olivia quickly agreed, answering a few more questions as she gave her sample to him. She was keeping her fingers double crossed, hoping and praying that she was with child. She was 21 and James was 26. It was about time she gave him a son.
Dr. Thompson examined his specimen carefully, sliding a thermometer into the clear cup. He squinted, tapping his index finger against his chin for a moment. And then he raised his eyes to her with a smile. "Congratulations your grace, you are with child."
Olivia felt her eyes well up with tears and she smiled back at him. "Thank you, is it possible to tell how far along I am?"
Dr. Thompson. "By your description of being three months, I would say nearly 12 weeks, so nearly 4 months by next week. I believe his grace is going to be very thrilled."
James poked his head into the room, his eyes full of curiosity. "Thrilled about what?"
Olivia smiled brightly at her husband. "My dear love, we are having a baby."
James was frozen where he stood, his eyes focused on no one but his wife. "A baby?"
Olivia slowly rows from her seat on the chaise by the window, walking over to her husband and sliding her arms around his neck. "Yes my love, I am with child."
James was crying, pulling Olivia against him and kissing her sweetly. "Oh my darling, my darling!"
Dr. Thompson smiled, silently collecting the coins that Olivia had given him and left the room.
Olivia. "Can you believe it? I had to make sure before I said anything to you."
James. "This is wonderful my sweetheart! How far along are you?"
Olivia. "Nearly 4 months. I believe I am due in September."
James held her tightly yet gently against him. "I'm so happy my darling!"
Olivia was beaming. "I'm just is overjoyed my love!"
Their eyes overflowing with tears of happiness, they exchanged a sweet and tender kiss. They were about to become parents, and couldn't wait to meet the newest arrival to their family.
