Because she was so engrossed in her thoughts,she didn't notice that the soil she was stepping on was slowly giving away.The next thing she knew she was falling down fast and all she could do was scream out loud.
She braced herself for the impact of the fall but it didn't come.Instead,she was caught in the air by a young man wearing black with raven black hair and a white cloth tied on his forehead.But what caught her attention were his eyes They were red,red like rare rubies.He landed smoothly on safe ground with her in his arms.He put her down and to her surprise he burst out.
"Just what do you think are you doing, lady?!If you plan to commit suicide then think again.You are way too pretty to have your life to be wasted just like that!"
Annika lookedat him.He was staring at her,his eyes flashed like fire.She sensed something different about him.As it is,she also has a keen sense of perception.She can see things that normal people don't usually see.Definitely this young man standing in front of her is no ordinary being.
"You are not from this world, aren't you?!"her question was straight forward with no hint of fear in her voice.He was taken aback, stared at her piercingly.
"How do you suppose you'd know about that?!"he questioned back at her.
"I just know.I can feel it,"she said simply.
"And what if I am? Will you be afraid of me?"
"I don't think so.Someone who has the mind to help someone in distress is not one to be afraid of."
"I take that as a compliment but I'm not a bit flattered,"he turned his back at her to walk away.
"Wait, don't go yet I haven't thanked you yet for saving me."
"No need.But don't try jumping over that cliff again.I may not be here to save you next time."
"You're wrong!I didn't jump off.The soil eroded at my feet and caused my fall."
A half smile formed on his lips but she didn't see it,"Really now?!"
"If you don't believe it, it doesn't matter.But thank you again for saving my life.May I know your name?"
"I don't think that is important!"
"Please?!I just want to know the name of my rescuer.By the way,I'm Annika."
Annika.Her name's as beautiful as she is,he thought to himself,then he quickly shrugged it off.
"Hiei,"and with that he walked away.She was left alone,her gaze still following him.
