ALONE NO MORE

Chapter Six

Annika straightened her back then breathed out a sigh of relief as she finished the last part of her research.She has been practically sitting in front of her desktop computer the whole day.Now she could feel her eyes getting cloudy,no thanks to the blinding glare of the computer screen.She turned the computer off and went to stand by the glass window of her room so that she could look at the green leaves outside.Her eyes gradually relaxed a bit and as she was looking at the tree, thoughts of Hiei again went through her mind.She knew that since the day he met her,he had been staying at that tree looking after her,whether he admitted it or not.Kurama once told her jokingly that Hiei has gone as far as stalking her, following her every move.She didn't know what to make of that.And admittedly,she always felt secure and protected because she could feel his presence around her.
She sighed again.It has been more than a week since he left her apartment after he was completely healed of his chest wound.He barely even said a word of thanks to her.Well,it was very unlikely that he knew the word gratitude.Kurama had told her everything about the fire demon's past,about how he was rejected since he was born,thrown away by the people who should have cared for him.That he was considered as a curse by the tribe he belonged and that his mother committed suicide because of her grief of losing her child.She,at last,learned all about Yukina his twin sister whom he has long been looking for but has already found in the human world.Kurama has warned her that if she ever comes across Yukina,she must not tell her that Hiei was the twin brother she was also looking for.Annika can't comprehend why Hiei didn't want Yukina to know the truth about his identity.But,Kurama was adamant.He told her that if she wanted everything
to be all right between her and Hiei she should just keep that secret.
Another thing Kurama told her was about Hiei's jagan eye
Now it was totally clear to her why he seems to always know where she was and what she was doing.Yes,she also
has psychic abilities but she has not developed the full use of those abilities and she's got no plans of doing so just yet.She wanted to live her life as a normal human But if she really needed to use it especially in emergency situations then she would not hesitate.
Annika went away from the window and sat at the edge of her bed.Subconsiously,she was hoping that she could feel Hiei's presence near her and that was why she went to look outside at the tree.But unfortunately she could not feel it.She could not admit to herself that she was missing him terribly yet her heart was telling her otherwise.When she closes her eyes,she can clearly see his almost expressionless face and his bright,red ruby eyes that sees through the core of her being.How can she forget that face and those eyes?!...
"What's happening to me?!"Annika was frustrated as she tried to keep Hiei out of her thoughts,"Why can't I get him off my head?!I really can't forget him!Why do I always want him near me?!"
A sudden realization struck her and made her sit upright,Could it be that ...that I've fallen in love with him?!But that's...that's impossible!I haven't known him for long yet.How could that be?!"
She really can't admit to herself that she has fallen for him.She is in total denial.But somewhere in the depths of her heart ,there was that yearning for him And also the hope that someday her feelings would be reciprocated.But that would be a remote possibility,not unless the fire demon would come to terms with his past.Certainly that would be the biggest hindrance that he needs to overcome.And not to mention that she has also baggages from her own life that she needed to throw completely away....
