It was dark by the time the Hogwarts Express came to a stop at Hogsmade Station. Y/n had read through all her tasks as a Head Girl, had stopped Malfoy and Parkinson from harassing a bunch of first-years and had walked by the Weasley twins' compartment around three times. Now, she was carrying her trunk off the train, walking along her friend group of fellow Ravenclaws, who were already discussing about that year's lessons and who their new Defence Against the Dark Arts teacher would be.
Her eyes fell upon the first-years who were surrounding Professor Grubbly-Plank; it seemed that Hagrid wasn't there to greet them this year, weirdly enough. She watched as the kids climbed on the boats, marking the beginning of their journey at Hogwarts. She felt a tug on her heart, realizing how long ago it had been when she was the one crossing the Black Lake for the first time. She remembered the giant squid almost tipped her boat over back then.
It felt weird that she would be back on those boats at the end of the year, though this time, leaving Hogwarts behind.
''Yo, Y/n!''
She blinked a few times and looked away from the kids who had already departed from the port. She caught sight of the Weasley twins and Lee Jordan making their way towards her and noticed that her friends weren't anywhere in sight. Puffing in frustration, she realized she'd spaced out for too long.
''Why're you still here?'' asked George as he stood in front of her, Fred and Lee near him as well.
''Oh.'' She spared the boats a look before switching back to the three Gryffindors. ''I was just thinking. Didn't even realize the others were gone.''
''Ah, well, it must be your lucky day, then!'' George threw an arm around her shoulders, causing her to almost drop her heavy trunk on the ground. ''You now have the privilege of taking a ride with the coolest people at Hogwarts.''
''Oh, I can take a ride with Harry Potter and his friends?'' Y/n asked, causing George scrunch his eyebrows in annoyance. ''Oh, you mean you guys. Yeah, I guess I can take a carriage with you.''
Fred couldn't help but laugh as he watched his brother lead the girl away. Maybe he didn't even need a wingman, he seemed to be doing great on his own. The older twin gave Lee a look and both of them chuckled before following.
The four caught one of the last horseless carriages and Lee, without thinking, sat down next to George, which meant Y/n had to sit next to Fred. The carriage took off and, thanks to the bumps on the way, Y/n and Fred's knees kept bumping into each other, causing the girl to keep apologizing, feeling rather flustered after every touch. George glared at Lee for sitting next to him, knowing he could've been in Fred's place at the moment.
''So,'' Y/n said, deciding to break the awkward silence, cleaning her throat after another knee-bump. ''What subjects do you guys have this year?''
Lee listed off his subjects first. George went after him. ''I've got Charms, Defence Against the Dark Arts and Transfiguration.'' He listed off the three subjects with his fingers.
''I've got the same except no Transfiguration. I've got Herbology.'' Fred crossed his arms in front of his chest, looking almost proud.
Y/n, however, couldn't help but blink a few times. ''So you're telling me you've only had three subjects the past year?'' Of course, Y/n wouldn't know, as most of her classes were with the Hufflepuffs. ''What's the point of coming to school, even?''
''See, that's what we said!''
''But our mum wouldn't let us drop out, no.''
''She'll have our heads before we can even think about it!''
