Fred was ashamed to admit what he planned to do for the day.

Valentine's had approached faster than Fred wanted it to. Lee was going out with Katie Bell and George had disappeared really early in the morning, leaving him alone. So, he decided to do the only sensible thing that someone who's crush, who he isn't even supposed to be crushing on because his brother is crushing on her, goes out with the git of Gryffindor house.

Follow them through the day to see how their date goes. He almost wanted to gag at the thought of the word 'date' in the same context as Y/n and Kenneth Towler. Ridiculous, really.

He hung around the carriages after making sure Y/n was still in the castle. He hid behind one of them when he noticed her coming out with Kenneth in tow. He wanted to gag again. Seriously, of all the people she decided to go out with that wasn't him, it was to be Towler? He sometimes questioned her taste in guys.

Not when it came to him, of course.

The two got in a carriage and Fred did the same, ending up with a bunch of third-years who were amazed to be in the same carriage as Fred Weasley and started pestering him with questions.

''Is it true you painted Snape's hair red in your third year?''

''Did you actually enchant snow balls to fly at a teacher's head?''

''Are you actually scared of pranking McGonagall?''

''Yes, yes and yes, old McGonagall is terrifying, she is!''

Fortunately for Fred, the ride didn't take too long. He got out of the carriage and hid behind it, watching as Kenneth offered his hand for Y/n to go down. She simply gave him a look before jumping off the carriage and strengthening her jacket. Kenneth scowled, closing the carriage door and following after her. Fred grinned and followed after.

''Where would you like to go first?'' Y/n asked as they crossed the bridge - it was harder to hide there, but Fred tried his best to blend with the crowd. The two didn't notice him.

''I need to buy some supplies. I also wanted to check the quidditch store.''

''You play quidditch?'' Y/n asked in confusion. She's never even seen him hold a broom.

Kenneth rubbed the back of his neck. ''Yeah, I play beater, you see, but I could never make the team because of the twins.''

Y/n nodded. ''I mean, the twins are really good players. No offense.'' Fred couldn't help but quietly laugh, while Kenneth frowned. She cleared her throat before continuing. ''But, I mean, you got to be Head Boy. That's plenty responsibilities already.''

''I guess so.''

Their conversation died and their walk became so painfully awkward that even Fred could feel it from a few feet behind them. Honestly, if he'd asked Y/n out instead of Kenneth, both he and she would be having a great time. He knew he couldn't, of course, but a man can dream, no?

''The hell are you doing?''

Fred looked down at his younger brother, who'd fallen in step with him. Hermione walked next to him. ''Stalking. What about you two? Going on a date? Blimey, little brother, didn't know you have it in you.''

''It's not a date, shut up.'' Ron took a glance at Hermione before looking back at Fred. ''Harry's on a date with Cho Chang and we didn't know what else to do.''

Fred took a notice of Hermione's annoyed expression after Ron's words and snorted. ''You're really thick, Ronnikins.''

''What's that supposed to mean?'' Fred simply gave him a grin. Ron huffed in annoyance. ''Fine, don't tell me then. Who're you stalking, anyway?''
