It was easy to avoid Fred in the first two school weeks - she'd even ended up changing Herbology seats in favor of sitting with another Ravenclaw in her year. Fred didn't comment on that, but she was sure he wasn't pleased with her decision.

And then their first DA meeting after the holidays and she knew she couldn't afford to miss another one. That would be her first actual confrontation with Fred for over a month.

She'd arrived early, together with Lisa and Michelle. They were standing to the side, waiting for everyone else to arrive. Y/n didn't join her friends' conversation, her eyes locked on the entrance and waiting. She felt a shiver run down her spine as the twins and Lee finally arrived.

She couldn't tell from afar, but she was pretty sure she made eye contact with Fred. Five seconds passed before she finally broke it and decided to focus on Lisa and Michelle's conversation instead.

''You had to clean his whole classroom? Didn't some fifth-year already do it yesterday?'' asked Michelle.

'' Yeah, the git just enjoys seeing students suffer.'' Just by the tone, Y/n could tell they were talking about Snape and the detention Lisa had with him earlier that day. ''Seriously, why did he become a professor if he hates kids? I don't get it.''

''Probably because he failed at everything else.''

Y/n couldn't help but join their laughter. As if on cue, Fred's loud laugh echoed through the room and she couldn't help but turn around to see him and George laughing at something Lee had said. On one side, she was glad to see he wasn't sulking, but on the other - the selfish one - she wished he'd come up to her, try to talk it out.

Fred hadn't made an attempt to reach out to her either.

Even though she told her friends she was done with the love-drama, she very much wasn't. She was trying, yes, but she couldn't help herself. She couldn't just get over a crush in such a short time, right?

Y/n kept on looking around, seeing Lee walk up to Harry and telling him something. Harry nodded, then turned towards the forty-or-so-people. ''Alright, now that everyone's here, let's get into pairs and practice Expelliarmus for five minutes as a warm-up. Get into pairs of two, now.''

People scattered around to pair up. Michelle and Lisa decided to practice together, so Y/n set off to look for her sister and pester her to be her partner, only to find she'd already paired up with Luna Lovegood.

''Y/n?'' Harry suddenly appeared in front of her, causing her to jump. ''Why don't you and Fred pair up, seeing as everyone's paired up together already.'' He looked at her almost too innocently.

''I don't know, Harry-''

''Fred, come pair up with Y/n!'' Harry didn't even let her finish before he called out and walked away.

Usually, Y/n wasn't one to use violence, but she was really fighting the urge to punch Harry right now.

''Hey.''

Y/n looked at Fred and nodded. ''Hi. Let's get to it.''

Fred opened his mouth as if he wanted to say something more, but closed it again and nodded. The two stood across from each other and started to throw the spell at each other.

''I was meaning to ask you,'' Fred said as he caught her wand before throwing it back. ''Do you have the Herbolgy notes from last time? I didn't pay attention.''

''Expelliarmus. You never pay attention.'' She threw his wand back at him. ''I'll give a copy to Lee tomorrow, he can give them to you.''

''. . . Okay.'' So she didn't caught on his attempt to talk to her.

After about five minutes, Harry called for everyone's attention. ''Okay, everyone, that was great. Now we'll practice the stunning spell, Stupefy. The room is a bit too small for that, so you'll have to take turns. Everyone from Smith and Goldstein to the left, you can take a break. Same pairs.''

This was starting to feel like a set-up and Y/n was sure she had only Lee to blame.

After the meeting ended, Y/n told Lisa and Michelle to go ahead as she looked around. Spotting her target, she crept up behind Lee and grabbed his collar, dragging him towards the back of the room. ''You two can go ahead without him! We have something to chat about!''

Lee's eyes widened, pleading his friends for help. Alas, the twins simply shared a look, shrugged with smiles and went on their way. Lee's mouth opened in betrayal, accepting his fate.

Y/n finally let him go and stood in front of him, arms crossed. ''What was that about?''

''What was what about?'' Lee genuinely didn't know.

''You said something to Harry right before the lesson started and then suddenly I'm being forced to partner with Fred.''

''Oh, that.'' Yeah, he could understand why she was mad. ''I didn't really tell Harry anything, though.''

''My ass you didn't.''

''Okay, maybe I did.'' Lee admitted, knowing there's no point lying if she saw him. ''But look. Fred really likes you-''

''I know that. And I know he doesn't want to be with me because of George, so you can spare me the details.''

''But-''

''Listen, Lee.'' Y/n cut him off again. ''You're cool, I consider you my friend. But stop messing in my love life. It's not your problem, so just leave it the fuck alone. This is between Fred and I, and only Fred and I. Got it?''

Lee's hope disappeared and he nodded, feeling bad. ''Sorry. I didn't mean to make you feel bad, I just-''

''I know. I forgive you. Just don't pull shit like this again.''

She didn't wait for Lee to answer. As she walked through the door, she made eye contact with Harry who was holding the Marauders' Map. He gave her a nod, telling her the coast is clear to go and she left.

If Fred wanted to solve this, to actually allow them to be together, then so be it. But she didn't want their friends mixing into this.
