''Y/n! 'Chelle! You'll never believe it!'' Y/n and Michelle looked up from their homework as Lisa burst into their dorm and looking around to make sure their other roommates aren't there before screaming again. ''Alicia Spinnet asked me to hang out next Hogsmade trip!''
''That's great!'' Michelle beamed before looking back down to her parchment.
''No, no, listen, you don't get it.'' Lisa sat down on Y/n's bed, her hands on her knees and her smile never leaving her face. ''You know when the next Hogsmade visit is?''
''Uh . . . next week?'' Y/n stated the obvious.
''Well, yes, technically!'' Lisa said, not being able to contain her excitement anymore. ''It's Valentine's Day!''
It took Y/n and Michelle around fifteen seconds to process the information before looking at each other with their mouths open. ''HOLY SHIT!''
The three girls stood up and hugged each other, screaming and cheering for Lisa's supposed date. ''It's finally happening! It's happening guys!'' Y/n yelled out.
''Yes, yes! Y/n, you owe me money!''
Y/n stopped jumping at Michelle's words. ''Oh.''
A month has passed since the begging of term and it felt like Y/n and Fred didn't even know each other anymore. She was trying hard not to think about him and it worked for the most part. She felt lighter without all the love-triangle drama in her life; honestly, when she said she wanted romance like in books, this was not what she meant.
''On that note,'' Michelle spoke after the three had calmed down and were sitting back on the beds. ''Roger asked me to go with him, too.''
''ROGER DAVIES?''
''SHUT UP, LISA!''
''Sorry.''
''Goddamn, the Quidditch captain? Atta, girl!'' Y/n laughed as Michelle rolled her eyes.
''Yeah, yeah.'' She looked at Y/n. ''I haven't told him yes yet, so if you don't wanna be lonely on Valentine's Day, now is the time to object.''
Y/n scoffed. ''Lonely? I'm fine by myself, thank you very much.''
Lisa quirked an eyebrow. ''You always complain when you have to do something alone.''
''That's a different topic. You can do whatever you want, I'll be very much fine by myself.''
Michelle and Lisa looked between each other. ''You're sure?''
''Positive.''
Michelle and Lisa had to leave after that conversation, seeing as they had Divination - one of the few classes Y/n didn't take - leaving her alone in the dorm.
Leaning back on her bed frame, Y/n let out a sigh. So, both her friends had dates for Valentine's now. This was the first time any of them had dates. It was okay, though. She could survive one trip without them. She can go quickly, buy everything she wanted, come back to the castle and read the new novel her mother had sent her.
Sounded perfect to her.
Absentmindedly, her hand travelled to her nightstand. She opened the first drawer and looked inside, seeing the neatly wrapped package - the red wrapping paper and golden bow looked rather sloppy as she didn't use magic for it, but it looked decent enough. Biting the inside of her lip, she closed the drawer again and laid down on her side.
How hard was it to forget someone?
✧.
''Lads.'' Lee entered the dorm, a smirk on his face. ''Katie Bell has officially fallen for me.''
''She must have some really bad taste, then.''
''Shut up, Fred.''
The twins laughed, but congratulated Lee on his Valentine's date anyway. ''How about you? You got dates?'' The twins shook their heads. ''Anyone in mind.''
''Kind of,'' George said, a small smile on his lips.
''Kind of?'' Lee quirked an eyebrow, shooting Fred a look and noticing his slight frown. ''Who's the lucky lady? Y/n?''
''Huh?'' George's smile dropped slightly before nodding. ''Oh, uh, yeah. Maybe.''
Lee looked back at Fred, seeing that, once again, he wasn't listening. ''What about you? Fred?''
''Huh?'' Fred, too, looked surprised at being addressed. He shook his head. ''No. Not really.''
''Shame. You'll be the loner of the group.'' Lee chuckled. ''If George's girl takes his ass, that is.''
''I'll hex you, Jordan.''
Fred ignored their banter as he looked towards his nightstand, reminding himself what was inside. There was this uncomfortable feeling in the pit of his stomach again, the one he got every time when he thought about Y/n in front of George. Pursing his lips, he turned back towards his friend and brother, laughing along at a joke George had said.
Maybe if he prayed to Godric Gryffindor, somehow things would work out for him. That thought kept Fred going.
Looking down at his watch, Fred groaned. ''I gotta go. I've got Herbology in about ten minutes.''
''So punctual, aren't you?'' Lee asked, raising his eyebrows suggestively. ''Any reason for that?''
''Not wanting detention?'' Lee and George laughed and Fred couldn't help but chuckle as well. Only Lee knew that couldnt be further than the truth. ''Whatever, I gotta go now.''
Fred walked rather cheerfully down the stairs and towards the Greenhouses. When he was almost in front of the Greenhouses, his ears perked up to listen in on a familiar voice. ''What can I help you with, Towler?''
''You don't really need to call me by my last name, you know that, right?''
Fred's eyebrows furrowed and he leaned at the Greenhouse, listening in and clutching the strap of his bag.
''Yeah. Okay, what do you want?''
''Do you happen to have a date for Valentine's?''
''. . . I don't, actually.''
''Well, then, how about you go out with me?''
There was a long moment of silence. Fred could swear his heart was beating three times louder and faster than usual. This couldn't be happening, could it? She couldn't have moved on. Not this quick, not now, not ever.
''Sure. Wouldn't hurt, I guess.''
No.
''You're the best, Y/n.''
It was happening.
Fred licked his lips, feeling defeat. He should've talked it through with George. He should've told him about his crush when he first got it or at least asked for his blessing this year. Now Kenneth Towler of all people was going to go out with her.
And as said boy rounded the corner and made eye contact with Fred, the ginger wanted nothing more than to wipe that smirk off his face. Fred watched him go, then turned back towards the sound of the footsteps, he made eye contact with Y/n as well.
The two stood across each other, holding their gazes on one another without speaking a word. Y/n pursed her lips, opened her mouth but quickly closed it. ''Sorry,'' she muttered and hurriedly walked into the greenhouse.
No.
