Fred didn't get the courage to talk to George.

Well, that wasn't necessarily true. There were some times when he wanted to talk with him - right after Defence Against the Dark Arts classroom the day after Valentine's Day or every night after dinner. Unfortunately, George always managed to run off and Fred was never able to catch his brother on his own.

Thus, the matter remained unresolved and Fred's love life remained complicated.

Since he couldn't talk with George, Fred felt rather bad for going against his back and going on walks around the Black Lake with Y/n, or when he caught Y/n throwing him winks from the Ravenclaw table when no one was looking and he'd return it.

Really, how was Fred supposed to resist?

''Where're you going?'' asked Lee as Fred stood in front of the small mirror they had in their room, combing his hair. Fred bit his lip as he looked at himself before putting his comb down and messing his hair up a bit, then turned back to Lee.

''Out.''

''With Y/n?''

''Who else?''

''So you've talked with George, then?''

Fred stiffened before letting out a sigh and letting his head fall back. ''I haven't. That ginger's been off the radar for the past week, I can't catch him to talk.''

Lee thought for a moment before nodding. ''Now that you mention it, I feel like I've barely seen him since Valentine's. Either of you, for that matter, but at least you show up for dinner so I don't have to sit like a loner, even though you keep flirting with L/n from across the room.''

Fred rolled his eyes. ''Yeah, well-''

The door opened and Fred and Lee both looked at it, seeing George walk in - he had a dopey smile his face and as he came face to face with his brother, his eyes lit up. ''Fred-''

''George, I need to talk to you.''

George blinked at the sudden cut-off, surprised by how serious his brother looked. His grin disappeared and he looked back at Lee, who was looking between the twins. ''Huh? What's this about?''

Lee quickly got up from his bed and made his way to the door. ''I'll see you two at dinner''

Fred waited until Lee left before looking back at George. ''I've been meaning to talk to you for the past week. Can you sit down?''

George furrowed his eyebrows as he sat down on his bed, not daring to look away from Fred. Sitting down on his bed opposite of George, Fred cleared his throat and pulled on his sweater, feeling it slightly chocking him.

''You're never this serious. Did something happen?''

Taking a deep breath, Fred finally gathered the courage to speak, like the true Gryffindor he was. ''How serious are you about liking L/n?''

George's eyebrows furrowed even further. ''Y/n?''

''Yes.''

The room was getting warmed and Fred wanted to take off his sweater, but now wasn't the time. He gulped as he watched his brother, though he wasn't sure if he anticipated or dreaded his answer.

''Oh, I don't like her anymore.''

Fred blinked once, twice, three times - suddenly he felt like he could breathe again. ''Come again?''

''Yeah, I stopped liking her a while ago,'' George said before a slight smirk took over his face as he leaned back on his hands. ''Ever since I noticed how much you like her, brother dearest.''
