''You're skipping today?''
''But it's the last class before Christmas break!''
Y/n felt like she was back at square one.
''I'm really not feeling well,'' Y/n said, pressing a hand to her forehead to seem more convincing. ''Just go ahead without me, I doubt Harry will have any new lessons right before Christmas.''
''I can bring you to Madame Pomfrey,'' suggested Lisa, seeming concerned.
''I'm not feeling that bad. I'm sure a nap will cure me.'' Y/n looked down at her watch. ''You should go before you're late.''
Michelle and Lisa shared a skeptical look before ultimately deciding to leave for class. Once the door closed behind them, Y/n fell back in her bed and let out a sigh. She felt bad about lying to her friends, but she didn't know what to do.
After Fred kissed her in the locker room, she realized she didn't want to be just friends with him. Of course, she wanted him in her life, but it hurt knowing how close they were but couldn't be together. And she was sure Fred regretted it, knowing how loyal of a brother he was, especially to George. Thus, her best solution was to avoid him for now.
It proved to be easy after skipping the last DA class, seeing as he didn't even show up to the train when they had to leave for home.
''McGonagall came to fetch them last night, the whole lot,'' Lee said, referring to the Weasleys. ''Not sure exactly why, just heard something about their dad.''
Y/n frowned, but thanked Lee, who returned back to his compartment filled with the girls from the Gryffindor Quidditch team. Y/n looked at them for a moment before turning around and walking back to her own compartment.
Once back home, mostly everyone could notice her unusual mood. Only her sister had a vague idea as to what the reason could be, but didn't dare ask Y/n about it.
Dear Fred,
Merry Christmas. I hope your dad is doing okay. I hope you're doing okay, too.Y/n scoffed and scrunched the notebook paper, throwing it in her halfway filled more scrunched papers. This is stupid. So stupid. He has other worries right now, he probably already forgot about everything. Stop being so selfish and let him enjoy his time with his family. Y/n scolded herself before throwing her body on her bed and letting her face rest against the pillow in case she needed to scream in frustration.
Fred wasn't doing any better.
His routine had turned into wake up, think about the kiss, eat, think about betraying George, do chores around the house, think about the kiss, shower and go to bed, then think about the fact he betrayed George again. He's never felt so good and at the same time so awful about a situation in his life. It was driving him nuts, leading to George noticing, but Fred always denied.
''Huh? I'm doing great, just stuck on this one product I wanna better.''
''Oh, yeah, just don't feel like dusting that hag's portrait.''
''Mum made me clean the toilet, it was gross.''
Fred Weasley was a master at coming up with quick and convincing excuses, but the fact he had to use that ability against his brother made him feel even worse.
And so, before either of them knew it, they were back on the train to Hogwarts.
Tapping his leg rapidly, Fred looked between Lee and George, wondering if she should talk to Lee. He never told anyone what had happened in the locker room, but he didn't know what to do anymore. He believed he must be desperate if he was asking Lee for dating advice.
