Liberty"Why did I fall asleep in front of your house and see you coming home at damn near fucking midnight?"
"If you saw me come in at that time, why didn't you say anything?" I asked. "I didn't even see see you in a vehicle?"
My mother was already down at the boutique, and Ramyn had tagged along with her. My dad was out with some friends, leaving me alone at home until Vonna came ringing our doorbell a few minutes ago. Only a few months into this house, and my girlfriend was already wearing out the door.
"I didn't feel like confronting you then. But what were you out doing? I'm asking around everywhere for you on Friday and nobody knows where you are," Vonna said accusingly. "I even went to Beatrix's."
"Sorry. I just needed some alone time."
"And are we seriously still doing that dumb deal?"
"The deal's off. Everybody's been going on and on about how dumb it is, so there. It's off. Liberty can never have what she wants," I rolled my eyes.
Vonna sighed heavily, leaning on the dinner table as I made myself something for breakfast on the counter.
"Me and Vonna got into it yesterday."
"I heard," I said stiffly.
Vonna peered at me, "You know something don't you. There's something more, isn't it?"
Vonna left the table area and entered the circular kitchen to stand in front of me.
"I'm tryna make myself something to eat, if you don't mind," I rolled my eyes.
"You slept with her, didn't you?"
I looked away, and she gripped my cheeks tight, turning my face back towards hers. "You slept with her?"
I nodded, my two slices of bread limply in my hand as I focused everything on this moment between us.
"I didn't even fucking do anything with the Whataburger bitch but oh, you had to go and get your fucking get-back and sleep with my ex."
She let go of my face and I took a half step back, putting my slices of bread down on a paper towel. I crossed my arms across my chest, staring Vonna down. "I made her do it okay-
"I don't believe that shit. You want Beatrix just as bad as she wants you," she stated. "You ain't make her do shit."
I sighed, turning away from her and going back to preparing my food. "You're a fucking hoe, you know that, Liberty? Yeah, I flirted with that girl, but I didn't have any plans on getting her number, fucking her, or even leaving the damn fast food restaurant with the bitch."
At the mention of the word restaurant, I tensed up, "Well, you don't have to worry about anything between Beatrix and I. Seems like A'livia and her have a thing now." I heard a laugh, and I turned around. "You heartbroken about that? Your two best friends, fucking with each other," she said, her expression filled with amusement.
"Whatever. So I cheated. We both did," I said.
"Then I guess we both deserve a second chance then, huh?" she said, coming closer to me.
"Yeah," I sighed.
She wrapped her arms around my body from the back of me, leaning her chin on my shoulder as she watched me make a sandwich. "I'm sorry for disrespecting you like that, Liberty," she said, her words slightly muffled as they vibrated against my shoulder blade.
"I'm sorry too," I said, and I really meant it.
"Was it at least good? The sex?"
"Yeah. But I regret it."
"Good," she said, pulling away. "I gotta pee. I'll be right back."
Good? I thought to myself, Hmph.
After I made Vonna and I some breakfast, I decided to spend my Saturday with my girlfriend instead of at the beach with A'livia and the crew. How could I sit and lay on the sand next to someone who was all in Beatrix's face like that the night before.
I guess that goes to show me that I can't just throw myself around for anyone to take. I need to focus on my relationship and make sure that Vonna and I have shit locked down. Me and her both have a lot of rebuilding to do. A lot of trust to regain in one another.
"So were you at her place all day?" Vonna asked as soon as we got into her mother's SUV.
"You still onnat?" I turned to look at her, as I put my seatbelt on. She scoffed, "Yes. If we gonna work shit out then we needa discuss shit, Beatrix." I shrugged, playing with my fingers. "I was hiding when y'all fought yesterday."
"Oh," Vonna paused. "Wow. I'm sorry you had to see that then; I guess."
"But the rest of the day I was at work. I got off then," I sighed, "I went to Lower Aster Waters." Vonna's head snapped to my face. She stopped making her way out of the driveway, and pulled the tail end of the vehicle out of the road. "What do you mean you went to that side of town?"
"I messed up, Von," I mumbled.
"Liberty," she sighed softly.
"I was stressed and Beatrix was ignoring me," I hiccuped, "and I stole from Marty's...then- then I stole from someone."
"Liberty, I thought you were getting better, not worse," Vonna turned towards me.
"Me too," I mumbled.
"Where is the stuff? Did you keep it?"
"No. Not this time. I dumped it at the edge of town," I sniffled. "Don't cry. I'm here for you. I'm your girlfriend," she gave me a side hug. "And don't fucking cry over Beatrix. She doesn't matter. I do."
"I'm sorry, Von."
"I'm sorry too."
