Liberty"What type of elementary school shit is that?" I demanded. "If you don't like her, you wouldn't want to kiss her," I shook my head, "I was a fucking fool to think you didn't want her anymore. To trust you as my friend."
"Damn right," Jeredine agreed, frowning as she looked over at me.
"I don't want her because why would I? She hurt me," Beatrix explained, pointing over at Vonna.
"I'm leaving."
I snatched up Vonna's arm, "Oh no you're not."
"Bro, shit is cool between you and I. Just cut Beatrix off and forget about anything she's saying."
We held strong eye contact for a minute.
"I'm not doing that," I decided. "I need to hear what she has to say because she's my best friend." My gaze turned back to Beatrix.
"If you think," Jeredine said slowly, "that someone's feelings always disappears after an abusive partner and them split up, then you're crazy. I don't think you've accepted that although she hurt you like hell, you once loved her and you never got a chance to explore that and to let that fade away because you were so focused on escaping the abuse. Beatrix...listen to your heart. Do you still care for Vonna?"
Beatrix swallowed her spit, her hands resting on the counter as she looked at me then Vonna.
"Why would I care for her and she hurt me?"
"It's nothing wrong with it," Jeredine assured her, "sometimes love takes awhile to fade away. But you can do that in private because you wanna respect Liberty and Vonna's relationship. Love doesn't go away just because someone hurts you...the heart is blind and sometimes oblivious to wrongdoing despite what you know you want- which is to not feel for someone who hurt you."
"I can't care for her," she repeated, avoiding Vonna's gaze of coldness.
"Do you really believe that or are you trying to convince us of that?" Jeredine asked.
"Jeredine's right: If you have feelings for her, then you do. It takes awhile to move on from an ex and you've been focused on healing from your trauma and not from the love you two shared," I stated, "but I need to hear an answer right now today. If you still have feelings for her, then we can't be best friends anymore."
"Regardless if she does or not, I don't want her around you," Vonna stated, "I won't talk to A'livia and I expect you to do the same regarding Beatrix."
"Beatrix, what do you have to say?" Jeredine asked.
"Fuck this," Beatrix turned towards the door.
"No. I deserve an answer. You crashed into my life and you can't just run off," I walked up to her, staring her down. "All of us in here, kind of excluding Jeredine, deserve an answer."
"Maybe I do," she whispered, her eyes watering as she pushed past me and turned the door knob.
"That isn't an actual answer," I stated.
"Well, it's all I know," she threw her hands up, slamming the bathroom door behind herself.
