Beatrix

It took everything in me to hold back in that moment. I could have really fucked some shit up but I knew that Liberty was here hiding from her relationship issues with Vonna while I had to face them.

As soon as Vonna left, I slammed my front door shut and barked out Liberty's name. She jumped out of hiding, a guilty and concerned display on her face.

I wanted to say so much to her in that moment, but I walked past her, upstairs to my room.

"Beatrix, I'm sorry," Liberty apologized. "I didn't know if it would look a certain way and anger her more if I popped up outta nowhere after you said I wasn't there. Make things look like more than they seem."

"And what are things, Liberty?" I flipped around, at the top of the stairs while she was at the bottom.

"She'd prolly think we were fucking, Beatrix," she hissed. "Or messing around."

"I don't know if I can keep doing this," I shook my head. "Is this all really worth it?"

"Am I really worth it? Are you deadass asking that, Beatrix?" I took Liberty in as she said that. "You really are selfish, aren't you? You and Vonna make a good pair," I commented, disgusted.

"How am I selfish for wanting to keep my best friend and my girlfriend?"

"Do you see what keeping the both of us is costing you?" I asked her slowly. "If you've found happiness with that asshole, I won't stop you. Cut me off so that things can be all sweet between the two of you. If anything, that shows that I care more than anything else I've done by letting you cut me off."

"Why can't you stay, Beatrix?" she begged, "I'll tell Vonna to lay off."

"What good would that do? When she wants her way...she gets it. She's a fucking bulldozer- she'll do what she can to get to the prize!"

"I'm the prize? So was she right? Is this all about getting closer to Vonna for you?" she stepped up a step.

"You think I wanna go back to that bitch?" I shouted.

"I don't know," Liberty looked uncomfortable.

"I don't, Liberty. Obviously you're still confused about who you are and what you want. When you find that out, let me know."

"What's that supposed to mean? We're not friends anymore- just like that?" she snapped.

"Yeah," I nodded, "just like that."

"Fuck," she turned to walk away, then flipped back around. "I thought we really clicked, Beatrix. I never would have thought you'd do me dirty like this."

"This is for the best: concerning your relationship," I stated.

"I don't need you to do what's right for my relationship, I need you to do what's right for me!" she shouted.

"So do you want what you and Vonna have to end?"

"I want-

"What do you want, Liberty?"

"You."

I was breathing so face that it was almost the only thing you could hear in my house. I swallowed my saliva, looking at Liberty at the bottom of the staircase. "We shouldn't feel this way about each other. It only causes more drama."

"Nobody ever chooses who they want."

She hesitantly stepped up another step, laying her hand on the railing. "You want me to be real with you, so here I am. I want you."

"But what about Vonna? What is she to you?"

"Everything," she sighed, "but she comes with too much baggage."

"And I don't?" I asked.

"You're different," she shrugged, taking another step.

"Liberty. Stay down there," I ordered. She took another step up, "Why?" she asked. I gulped watching her take two more. Two more steps and she'd be with me. Next to me. In front of me.

On me.

"Because this is wrong. I'm a faithful person, and I might not be in a relationship right now, but the faithfulness in me is telling me to respect your relationship, even if you aren't yourself."

"I already gave Vonna her ultimatum: I get to act how I want and she gets to sit inside and deal with the consequences of her cheating. I think I'll call it the Hot Girl Summer Deal," she smirked.

"And that's stupid as hell. It doesn't solve shit, Liberty and the two of you are acting hella childish right now. Her coming to my door, you...you...youuu doing this," I sighed as she made the next couple of steps to rest her hand on my shoulder.

"I just wanna see what you're about, Ms. Mavis," she told me, laying her head on my shoulder. I wrapped my arms around her, against my better will. "I'm about a lot. More than the pretty shit that I've showed you during our friendship."

"Then I'm ready for it," she said firmly.

"I think if you can't handle Vonna's shit then you can't handle mine, fasho," I chuckled.

She rubbed her head against my collarbone, sighing.

"You're sooo much more than Vonna is to me."

"This is wrong," I whispered back, picking her up and letting her wrap her legs around me as I carried her back to my bedroom.

"Then why does it feel amazing?" she asked, then kissed the corner of my mouth.
