Beatrix

"We should leave. It's getting late," I said, still smiling from the joke A'livia just told.

"I don't even have a ride. Let me call my mom-

"Nahh. Don't worry about that. I'll drop you off at ya crib," I said, laying my card down on the table.

"Thanks, Beatrix," A'livia said. "I'm glad you're less tensed now. You really needed to get out and take a break from all of this drama."

"I did. Thank you," I leaned over and hugged her.

"The crew and I are planning to go to the beach tomorrow. You should come."

"Ahh. I don't know," I sighed.

"C'mon. You been working hard all week. Beatrix deserves a break," she held both of my hands and attempted to spin me around. "Fine, fine," I laughed, "but uh, is Liberty gonna be there?"

"Uh. Well, yeah. It'd be wrong if everybody else went except for her," she shrugged.

The waiter came by and took my card to the back.

"I just don't know if I can deal with everything concerning her right now." There goes my tiredness again. "One thing I won't do is pick sides. If one of you goes, I guess the other will have to stay back," A'livia stated.

"Y'all were her friends before I was y'all's. I'll let her go, and if she doesn't, then I will. It's only fair."

"Okay. But still try to make it, you know?" A'livia peered up at me, brushing her hair back over her shoulder. Her peach skin and her flowing hair changed colors underneath the disco light set up in the cafe tonight. The scent of alcohol was light on her breath, like it was on mine.

"Do you wanna...go somewhere?"

"Beatrix," she giggled.

"I'm not the one in a relationship. I can be free and out there," I smirked, twirling her around.

She leaned against me, my butt pressed against the edge of the table as she held the edge of my jeans and used a finger to trace the hem of my boxers.

"I am though."

"Mm. A shame. I attract mated women."

"A shame that is," A'livia traced my lips with her eyes.

"Your card, ma'am."

I broke away from the moment and grabbed my card from the waiter. "It's getting late," I repeated.

"Yeah," she brushed her hair back.

A'livia got her things and we walked to the exit together. "My uh, girlfriend is gonna pick me up. You don't have to worry about my ride."

"You sure. I'd hate to-

"It's fine, Beatrix. Really. It is," she assured me.

"Well, okay. It was nice going out with you," I told her, giving her a little side hug. She shivered as the night's wind hit us. "And this most definitely was not a date," I grinned. "Right. We were just hanging out," she gave me a little smile of her own.

Despite our little banter, I knew that nothing would ever happen between A'livia and I. We were one of the same- just two flirts who loved to take things to the next level when we drunk. But still...it's been a minute since I've played with something new. It's been a minute since my focus has revolved around anyone else besides Liberty.

I got into my car, locking it as I steadied myself and mentally prepared myself to drive.

"You got this. Just a few streets," I mumbled.

Once I got home, I locked my door and crawled onto the couch, holding my stomach and squeezing my eyes shut, begging for sleep to take me before nausea did.
