Powder stood in the doorway, staring at you as her cheeks were wet from tears. She had went to take a nap, to which she had a nightmare. She lost you. She lost you in a horrible accident that killed you, there was so much blood, even her hands were dewy from the red that spilled from you; but here you were, sitting at your desk working. "M-mom?" Powder choked out, making you turn around.

You caught sight of Powder, her hair disheveled and eyes glimmering with sadness. Her lip quivered as more tears pooled in her eyes. You swiftly got up, kneeling before her and pulling her into your arms. The sobs racked her form, shuddering and shaking with every gasp and tear. "You're okay now. You're alright." You whispered, hugging her tighter. "You died and I couldn't save you!" Powder cried out, digging her nails into the fabric of your blouse. "Like Vander! Like Mylo and Claggor!" Powder sobbed out, not noticing that you had picked her up. You sat in the chair to your desk, holding the sobbing child in your arms. "I'll always be here for you, my dear. I'm never going to die, disappear, or leave you. You're my baby." You whispered, kissing her forehead.

"I'll never abandon my baby." You reassured, having Powder look up at you. "You know why?" You whispered, handing Powder a tissue to let her blow her nose. "Because Mister Silco will have hell to pay?" She questioned, blowing her nose. She remembered the first time she met Silco and how quickly you took her in. When he had tried to berate you for snatching her up so quickly, you had stared him in the eye and whispered something. Powder couldn't catch what you said, but it made Silco shut his mouth. "Because Silco will have hell to pay." You reaffirmed, letting Powder now stand in front of you. She was wiping her tears away, smiling a little. "You'll always be my baby, even when you get old, and smelly, and wrinkly." You reminded, hearing Powder giggle as you gently pinched her cheeks. "And you'll always be my baby when you're recognized as the greatest inventor." You got up, walking through the halls of your house with Powder.

The lower panels in the hallway were scuffed and marked with crayons, paint, and markers from Powder. You never got angry at her for drawing everywhere, in fact whenever you had guests you made sure to show them off. You and Powder got to her room, remembering the layout. She had a bunk bed with a desk under, a chest of toys, a chest of materials, her dresser, a hammock by her window, and hanging proudly on the wall was a painting of Powder that you made for her. You looked down at Powder, seeing her staring at the painting. When she glanced at you, you practically fell into her eyes.

Little grey beacons of hope, they made you want to be the best person for her. To give her the life she deserved, a life where she didn't have to worry about when her next meal will be, where she didn't have to worry about anything. All she would have to worry about was what time bedtime was and if she had to get another juice box. And you did it for her. You made it possible for her.

Everything, even with no genes sharing between you two, was for Powder. The blood in your veins, the love that radiated in your chest, your hand for hers to hold when scared or crossing the street, every inch of this house was for Powder. "Don't ever forget that you're my baby. Genes or no genes. You'll always be my baby." You saw Powder smile at your words as tears pricked your eyes. Her smile slowly faded as a tear rolled down your cheek. "What's wrong?" She questioned. You got to her level, hugging her tightly.

Please... Never forget the light you brought to my life, Powder.

You hugged her tighter, her breath slightly labored as you squeezed her. "I'm so happy to have you in my life." You whimpered, smiling a little. You pulled back, looking at her eyes. "Let's go get some ice cream, you can have as many scoops as you want." You offered, Powder already starting to drag you out the house. "Let's get some also for Caitlyn and Ekko, I'll invite them over." You offered, seeing her look up at you with excitement.

The value of non-existent genes... You watched Powder select the flavors she wanted, the server glancing to you with mild worry and amusement. With a nod, you looked at Powder's confusing concoction of cotton candy, blue moon, sprinkles, and birthday cake. You got Ekko and Caitlyn some waffle bowls like Powder and yourself a cone. ... Will always be more than all the gold in the universe...
