Am I still someone who runs when they're afraid of change?

All I know, right now

There's more than cold blood in my veins

shallow water - weathers

Nick knew very well - Victoria Moore was a random person in his life, who for some reason, stayed with him. The girl not only lingered in the life of a brunette, but also brought a bit of stability and faith in the future in it. She brought him hope that in the future he will not become a trailer trash, a drug dealer or a drug addict, but will move to another city or, if he tries, go to a more or less decent college. One of Nick's main problems, in addition to the situation at home, has always been the perception of information in the classroom, he very quickly lost attention. Because of this, Nick had a lot of problems in elementary school. He was quickly diagnosed with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. The brunette's mother never sought to throw out the guy's energy in a different direction, she had no time for this, she preferred quarrels with her husband and eternal screams to her son, feeding the child with countless prescribed pills. Nick's father, whom he always remembered as angry and dissatisfied, could not stand the fact that Nick was different, trying to correct the guy's behavior with a psychologist and punishments. And after the divorce, Nick stopped regularly visiting a psychologist who was trying to correct his behavior, the second component remained, but only became more cruel and passed into the hands of a 'loving' mother.

He met Clay in elementary school. A smart, slightly silly, sometimes downright ridiculous guy who lived across the street. Clay easily found a way to pull up Neil in his studies. Explained everything he missed. Fumbled, clearly explaining the most difficult tasks. Never allowed attempts to mock a guy because of his behavior or problems in school. He pushed him into the world of more successful and popular children, helped to make friends and gain some confidence in himself. But apparently friendship was a burden to the guy. Nick, noticing that Clay prefers George to him, perhaps trying to maintain some kind of social status, simply chose to leave, not wanting to be a burden to a more successful friend.

Nick has always been grateful to Clay. And when he met Vicki, he realized that he was unnecessarily burdened at times by how much Clay had developed a completely unnecessary perfectionism. Victoria was a hundred, no, a thousand times more meticulous person, which absolutely did not fit with her cheeky manner of getting drunk at any party and recklessly driving drunk, getting involved in races.

"Seriously, I'm telling you." Vicky tapped her pencil tip irritably on her notes, "my part is a real work of art. But this jerk will ruin everything for me."

"It's not that important work, chill..," Nick replied. He didn't even know his partner in this project in English Literature, much less started his part of the assignment at all.

"You don't understand." The girl frowned, the pencil in her hand twitching faster and faster like a speeding metronome.

"No, I don't understand," Nick admitted. "Clearly, I don't understand Luke. He has a car, he has a successful track and field career or some Yale, he is constantly with the "tough guys". And for some reason, he stands up for me."

"And I think he's just an asshole," Vicki says. "He cashes in on his status as an athlete and is pleased that a bunch of empty-headed freshmen keep their eyes on him. And he probably wants something from you."

"He never offended or hurt anyone in front of me," Nick began to get annoyed, because all this prevented him from concentrating on his own part of the task. And he did not want to mess with it for a long time. "Well, and I don't think that I'm some kind of boost for reputation or I can give him something."
