JAYDEN'S BACK WAS AGAINST the counter of family video. She was hiding behind the counter and counting her fingers as she listened to Robin ramble on about how her and Steve should be combined.
Something about both their problems being solved, etc, etc. Jayden finally revealed herself from behind the counter as Robin ran across the store and towards a shelf that was stocked with different VHS tapes.
"Doctor Zhivago." She smiled and turned to Steve who sighed. "Ugh, you know I don't do double VHS." He waved his arms in the air signaling no.
"It's a good movie!" Jayden argued. Robin pointed to her. "That, and it's about doomed love."
"Oh, well, that's relatable."
"Precisely."
Steve grabbed the cart that was filled with VHS' and brought it around the counter as Robin walked behind said counter as well. "Also, Julie Christie is b-b-b-bonkers hot in this." Jayden smiled and nodded along. "Like, seriously, the most beautiful creature I have seen in my life." Robin grabbed the remote and turned on the TV which went straight to the news.
"We're in the Forest Hills trailer park in east Roane County." The reporter said, catching Jayden's attention. She knew Max had moved their after her stepdad had broken it off with her mom.
She walked forward between Steve and Robin, looking up at the TV. She had that bad feeling again.
"We don't have a lot of details now, but we can confirm the body of a Hawkins High student was discovered early this morning."
Jayden's heart dropped.
"Police had not yet released the victim's name.. although we are told they're currently in the process of notifying the family."
Steve looked down at Jayden, already knowing what she was thinking. "Don't overthink, Jay. It's not ether of them. It isn't, I'm sure of it." He tried to comfort her but she just shook her head. "I'm gonna go to the bathroom." Her throat burned as she tried to hold back her tears.
