XII- Owen

After the orthodontist, I felt lousy. But I had other matters to take care of.

"Magician school!" I cheered as Orion and I packed our bags. "This is going to be so cool!"

He smiled as Charlie walked into the room dragging a large suitcase.

"Need help there, buddy?" Orion said helping him put his suit case up on his separate bed in the corner.

"Thanks," he smiled while beginning to pack his clothes.

I stacked some books Caesar gave to me into the corner of my suit case.

"Do you think the dorms will be nice?" I asked breaking the silence.

"Yup," Orion mumbled back, fixated on packing. He wasn't even listening.

I rolled my eyes and said, "your pants are on fire."

"That's great," Orion muttered while folding his pants.

I gave him a dull look as Rose walked into the room.

"How's packing?"

"Oh great. Orion's on fire and I'm talking to myself once again," I explained.

Our sister laughed and sat on the edge of my bed as I shook my head.

"Well after your done talking to yourself, Caesar and uncle Rogburt took the liberty to go into town and get all your books for school. You thank them, okay?" Rose explained. I nodded.

She sounded like a mother to me. Always making sure I'm polite and respectful. Tuck your shirt in, don't talk with your mouth full, blah, blah, blah.

Rose stood up and walked towards the door saying, "your books are in the kitchen. Remember to pack them. We're leaving in an hour too. Kay?"

"Yup," we all replied.

Orion sighed and shut his suitcase with a bang.

"Honestly, I'm glad we're leaving this place."

I looked at him with a puzzled face.

"I thought you liked it here?"

"I like the Magic Realm, not the lair," Orion said shaking his head. "I didn't want to admit it. I thought Will might tease me because of it. I can't put my finger on it, but this place gives off a super creepy vibe to me."

"Like what!" I practically laughed. I was shocked. My older brother, Mr. Gonna Be A Solider, tough as nails kid-affaid?

"Have you noticed all the mirrors in this place are cracked or shattered?" He replied.

"So?" I said folding my clothes.

"Do you hear the voices at night? The little faint whispers?"

"Probably Barth sleep talking!"

"Owen," my brother groaned. "I don't think guarding spirits sleep."

I rolled my eyes as my brother heaved his suit case in one hand.

"I'm going to go get something. I'll be back before we leave."

And with that, he left Charlie and I in silence.

...

I helped Charlie bring the suitcases down stairs were I fell in love at first sight with the stack of school books for us.

Zipping over to the table I opened books, browsing through the countless pages of basic magician magic, mysterious creatures, defense tricks. All the works.
