XIX- Orion

The sound of rain drops hitting the library's window played in the back as I dozed off. The smell of the parchment I laid on filled my lungs.

"Orion," Owen sighed across the table from me. He sat his book down and stared at me. Zilla sat next to him, frowning.

"I've got an idea," she then said, her frown turning into an evil grin.

She slowly came around the table and leaned down towards my head.

"Sick' em, fellas," she said as her snakes suddenly jumped at my face, grazing their thin, forked tongues on my skin.

My eyes bursted open as I gave a shriek, then falling back with my chair.

Zilla and Owen laughed as I stood up and folded my arms.

"Very funny," I groaned, regaining my seat.

Zilla leaned against the table saying, "Orion, why are you always so tired? Your falling behind in classes I hope you know."

I shrugged, not thinking much of the topic.

"I just have been focusing on training lately. I'm going on my very first mission tomorrow-."

"We know!" Owen and Zilla moaned together. "You've only said that twenty other times!"

I chuckled and sat my head on the table.

"Sorry guys."

Closing my eyes Owen suddenly dropped a stack of books in front of me, startling myself.

"Homework. Now."

I sighed and gazed at my younger brother. Over the past week, he had been acting strange. He got super freaked out if someone touched him or mentioned the forest out back. And the topic "dragons" never seemed to spark his appeal anymore. Now that he was grumpy, I needed to revive his attention for something more, interesting.

"Okay, but before homework," I started. "Let's talk about Will, since Charlie isn't here."

Owen raised his eyebrows and slowly sat down in his seat.

"I'm listening."

I smiled and began to convey a plan.

"We need to do some snooping around the lair. Find more clues and evidence to use against them. We all know they hid the secret of Charlie being a you-know-what."

Gazing around for anyone who might be eves dropping on our conversation, Zilla and Owen both leaned in closer as I spoke softer.

"I think they are up to something. Will mysteriously leaves. Caesar is always getting strange packages. Look what I found in the lairs garbage can the other day-."

I rummaged through my jeans pockets till I found a slip of paper. Smacking it down on the table Owen read it.

"One order of eye cream, silver spine potion, sunfly intestines, steel silk, unicorn blood-guys," Owen looked up with a worried expression on his face. "All these items are extremely rare and, or, illegal!"

We all exchanged worried glances.

Finally I said, "we can't tell anyone about this yet. We need more proof."

Owen rubbed his chin saying, "how the heck is Rose going to react to this?"

I shook my head, wondering if she and my uncle were safe in that house after all.

...

"Mission! Mission! Mission!" Boris chanted in his thick Russian accent as we walked down the Regiment buildings polished halls.
