XVII- Rose

I leaned against the lairs kitchen counter lost in the aroma of Caesars morning coffee.

My brothers, Charlie and their friend Zilla had just headed off back to school on that Monday morning, leaving me in the kitchen wearing an oversized shirt and shorts with slippers. My hair was mangled and ratted while my breath reeked of cigarets. Just as I decided to pour myself some coffee to get rid of the smell, Will sulked down the spiral staircase wearing a messy robe, sweat pants and no shirt.

I looked at him and raised my eyebrows saying, "did you loose your shirt on your way down the stairs or is this a new look?"

"Charlie burnt my shirt on accident last night and I'm low on laundry," he yawned, ruffling his black hair.

After learning about Charlie being a demon, I was open to the thought that Will has hiding more than I knew. Somehow, I couldn't shake the feeling him and his uncle had a secret up their sleeves. I didn't bring it up though. It was for the best. After all they took us in.

I watched Will approach me as he said, "is me being shirtless a problem?"

I laughed, unsure what to say.

"Well..."

He snickered as he came up behind me, weaved his arms through mine and locked our fingers together. Will kissed the top of my head just as my uncle rolled into the room, glaring at us.

I yelped and accidentally elbowed Will in the stomach sending him crumbling on the ground, moaning as I said nervously, "good morning, uncle Rogburt."

"Morning, Rose," my uncle frowned suspiciously.

I gave another worried chuckle and bent down to Will, tying his robe closed and helping up. His face was a sickly pale as he clenched his stomach.

"What the heck was that for?" He groaned into my ear.

"Sorry," I gulped as I began to help my uncle make breakfast.

Will shuffled over into the living room and sat down in his uncles chair as Barth laughed above.

"She got you good, Romeo," he snickered.

Will huffed and untied his robe, throwing it back while folding his arms and frowning at me.

Gazing at him he stuck his tongue out at me and I did the same, then hiding it from my uncle. The rest of the morning Will just glared at me.

...

I walked into the magic shop saying, "wheres Will?"

Caesar sat down the newspaper saying, "I sent him off to the market to fetch some things for me. He should be back later today."

I nodded as gazed around the shop. "Is their anything you need me to do in the store?"

Caesar smiled and said, "I think we're fine here, Rose. Why don't you go out and window shop or something."

I paused then said, "I do need to get Will something for his birthday. What do you think he would like?"

Caesar rubbed his goatee and said, "honestly, you could please that boy with a bag of gummy bears. He likes reading though. Will actually reads more than you think."

"Really?" I answered. "What kind of books does he like to read?"

"Anything," Caesar replied throwing his hand up. "He will read anything he can get his hands on."

I grinned, knowing what to get him and thanked Caesar.

...

I window shopped, browsing for the perfect gift when I found myself on a familiar street.
