XXII- Will
I gnawed on breakfast while viewing the mail. My uncle sat across from me working on a crossword puzzle in today's paper. Everything was calm and normal until....
"Sweet Merlins beard," I frowned as Rose shuffled into the lair through the front door. She wore her pajamas and her hair had twigs and leaves sticking out of it.
"I hope the morning commute wasn't invaded by angry fairies," I sighed giving a quirky remark.
She spat out a leaf and growled through clenched teeth, "where's my uncle?"
"He should be coming down soon," my uncle answered, still fixated on his newspaper.
Rose stomped over to us and sat down at the kitchen table glaring at the pot of flowers in the center.
She stared at them evilly as I leaned forward and whispered, "has this plant offended you somehow? I can go talk to it if you want. We can't have any plant bullies in this lair."
"No, it's not that," Rose sighed rubbing her eyes.
Suddenly, the sound of the the font door opening started us. Rogburt wheeled into the lair as Rose jumped up.
"Uncle! We have to talk!"
He stopped and backed his wheel chair up.
"Maybe I should go..."
She yanked him back into the house with him chuckling.
"Easy there, dear."
Rose put her hand on her hip and said, "why did I have a curse on me?"
"Curse?" I frowned.
"Did have?" Rogburt gulped turning pale. "Rose please tell me you still have the curse."
Rose folded her arms and said, "I got rid of it."
"No, no, no," Rogburt cried rolling over to the window. He peered out. "This is bad."
Rose stomped her foot on the ground and said in the strong voice. "I want an explanation. Now."
Roses uncle cursed as turned towards her.
"Are you sure you want to know the truth?" His eyes met hers. She nodded. He said and rubbed his eyes.
"Your father and mother put that curse on you to protect you from your uncontrollable magic. See, your dad was completely a magician while your mother was half magician half fairie. Your powers were out of control when you were born. Even before you were born your parents didn't want you growing up in the world where there mistakes rested. So they cursed you and raised you in the mortal realm."
Rose stepped back and softly said, "what mistakes could they have made to make them want to raise me outside of their culture. To hide the real me?"
Rogburt sighed and rubbed his chin. "Trust me. You don't want to know. And I'm not the person to tell you."
He rolled forward and grabbed Roses hands saying, "overall, I don't want you to forget your parents still love you. After everything they did, they sacrificed their lives for you and your brothers well being."
Rose closed her eyes and sighed. Anxiously, I watched from the safety of the kitchen table.
"Just please be careful and learn to control your magic now," her uncle whispered.
"Okay," Rose said softly.
And with that they left us alone.
"Well," my uncle said placing the paper now. "That was entertaining."
