"Killua, you're home." Alluka looked up from the couch, really hoping and praying to get some sort of response
Killua paused, opening his mouth to speak and then stopping again.
"I'm gonna...get some sleep." He managed as he continued walking towards his room. "Night."
Upon entering his room, he shut the door (slammed it rather) and laid flat on his back on his bed. His fingers traced his lips where Gon's had just been and his cheeks flushed.
His heart skipped a beat at the thought. His lips turned upwards slightly, almost a smile, but he was hesitant. He still didn't know if it was okay. If many things were okay. Like is it really okay to be how he is; to be gay? Is it okay to kiss Gon? Sure, Gon had initiated the kiss, but maybe he'd thought about it and hated it. Maybe he didn't like the way Killua lips felt on his. Did he put on chapstick? Maybe Killua didn't care.
"First kiss, huh?" He mumbled to himself, finally allowing himself to smile. "Not bad."
That morning, he took extra long to look his best. His hair was less messy and he made sure to cover his eye bags. He put on chapstick and examined himself in the mirror once more before deciding he looked okay.
He waved off his siblings and waited on the porch of his house, skateboard at his side, for Gon to leave his house across the street. He hummed and tapped his feet and his eyes held a happy look, one he hadn't worn in a long while.
He perked up at the sight of Gon with his bike. He stood up and jogged over to his side of the street.
"Hey, good morning." Killua grinned.
Gon kept quiet, walking his bike at his side. "Morning."
"So," Killua started. "About yesterday—"
"I can't do this right now, Killua. I'm gonna go."
Killua paused as Gon walked ahead. His brain rejected the information and he caught up with him with a confused laugh.
"What—What do you mean? I was gonna say that I—"
"Don't finish that sentence. Please." Gon stopped and cringed. He let out a shaky breath. "I don't think we can—I don't know if we can be friends at the moment. I need to sort things out. Just...sit with Penny at lunch, I'm sure she'd love that, yeah? It's—It's not gonna be permanent or anything, I just need some time to—"
"Mhm." Killua nodded, barely able to speak. "Kay. I'll, uh, take the other way to school then...get out of your hair 'n stuff."
"Killua, I didn't—don't be upset with me." Gon pleaded with a fearful look. "You're a good friend, you know that?"
"Kay." Killua swallowed. "I'm, uh, gonna go now."
Gon watched as Killua turned around and cut through houses to get to the back roads. He pursed his lips, hopped on his bike and rode to school.
In class, Killua occupied his mind with the words on the page. Specifically one sentence he could reread over and over without problems and tuned out the rest of the class as they participated in their popcorn reading.
The girl doll wore bangs. So did I. Killua read over and over and over and over, not stopping for even a second because that would run the risk that he might cry and in school too.
"Killua, are you paying attention?" His seat partner and friend Jackie whispered. "Teacher's been calling you for a while. Right here."
She pointed to the paragraph he was meant to start as he stood up and apologized quietly. He swallows the phlegm in his throat and began reading.
