Andy stood at the window, her arms folded.
She stared at the coffee shop that was a mile away from the hospital. The shop might have just been a distraction from her thoughts. She couldn't wait for Mia to sign her out of the damn building. For a moment, she stared at the hospital gown she had on, it was just a breakdown, why put this on. Andy puffed out. Mia had a lot to answer. Just then she heard the door open, she whirled, it was Mia. She sighed.
"Thank goodness you are here Mia. How the fuck did you let them put this on me?. I've been here for barely a few hours. You know how much I hate them"
They were seated on the bed. For a moment Mia wasn't talking. She stared into space. Andy followed her sight line, she was staring at the single couch in the room but she certainly wasn't thinking about that.
Andy stared at her best friend, she was starting to have a bad feeling about this. Her eyes moved to the door and there was Mia's parents watching them. Andy searched their faces for answers but there was none. A moment later, they moved away from the door.
"Okay." Andy said turning back to Mia "Something is certainly wrong here. Talk to me Mia"
Andy watched her hold her hands and looked at her.
"You have not been here for few hours Andy, it's been three days"
Andy shook her head. That couldn't be true.
Mia nodded. She tightened her grip on Andy's hands that were slowly coming off hers. Andy was getting anxious.
"I'm happy you are fine now. For a moment, the doctor really couldn't why you were gone like that but he did say something"
Andy stared. Her narrowed and knitted brows asking the questions.
Mia looked down at their hands that were in each other's and up at her
"You are pregnant Andy"
Mia's voice was like a whisper. The room went dead silent. Andy wasn't talking. She barely could breathe. She had her hands off even before Mia could grip it. Her shaking hand slowly went up to her neck. She had her eyes fixed on Mia.
"You are pulling my legs right?. It isn't true. You're lying to me Mia."
Mia shook her head. She was trying to grip Andy's hands back again but she took it off each time.
Andy shut her eyes. Her breaths coming out in slow pants and in split second, her face buckled--she was crying.
"Don't make this anymore hard for me Andy. That night happened because of me. I was the one with the idea"
Andy was crying more hard now. She was barely surviving. How was she going to cope with a baby and then Mia was taking the blame.
"Stop crying already Andy dear"
Mia's Mum said and sat beside her. She drew her close and rubbed her arm.
"You really can't expect things to go as planned girl. You can't be perfect"
Soon Mia had herself wrapped around her dad crying as well. For a moment, her mom shut her eyes. She had been in this situation many years back. Nobody was to blame for it. She has always believed it was just fate building it's way.
"Hey" she whispered to Andy's ears "You were discharged a while ago" She stopped and glanced at Mia whose puffy eyes were staring back at them and turned back to Andy "Let's go home. We have a baby to take care of"
Mia's mom laughed, it was a short one that no one had joined.
Andy felt tear drops roll down her face once more as Mia's mom helped her up. She barely could hear herself breathe as they walked out of the room.
