Chapter 8: Worry

KABANATA VIII

Third Person's POV

Na sa labas ngayon ang magkakaibigan habang na sa loob naman ng establishimento si May. Lahat sila ay nagdadalamhati sa pagpanaw ng kaniyang ama at gustuhin man nilang tabihan at samahan si May ay wala silang lakas ng loob na lapitan ito.

Bakas sa mga mata ng dalaga ang sakit at pagkabigla sa mga nangyari. Walang kabuhay buhay ang kaniyang mga mata ngunit hindi rin ito lumuluha. Halos bumigay na ang katawan niya at maging ang talukap ng kaniyang mga mata ay wala ng lakas pang dumilat.

"Jasmine May..." Nakayuko si Megumi at napabuntong hininga. "I don't know why this is happening to her." May luhang pumatak sa kaniyang kamay.

"My mom had told me about her biological family." Tahimik silang nakikinig kay Noe. Lumuwas sila agad 'nang marinig nila ang balita.

"Her father died in an accident and she lost him at such a young age. Isa si tito sa mga malalapit sa kaniyang ama. They were worried about her when her father died pero naging panatag sila na mayroon pang buhay na naghihintay kay May kasama ang nanay 'nito. They trusted fate and gave in to what they believed was right. It was May's birthday at napagdesisyunan nila tito na bisitahin si May at bigyan siya ng regalo tulad ng ginagawa nila dati kasama ang pumanaw na ama 'nito but they were horrified at what they saw. Her mother was hitting her, slapping her, throwing anything she touches at her, and she tried to strangle her to death."

Natigilan si Kai. Hindi niya alam ang kuwentong ito.

"Her mother was very abusive. She was slowly killing her daughter and that sight thundered their hearts. What made their hearts ache more was because they saw May at the floor, not even shedding a tear nor resisting. She was receiving everything that was given to her by her mother. She was practically dead and they cannot even believe their eyes. May had given up in her life years ago, when her father died. They knew it and they were very sorry to her."

Nagsimulang manubig na naman ang mga mata ni Megumi habang nag-iwas naman ng tingin ang magkakaibigan.

"Tita ran to her as soon as her mother's hand were stopped by tito. The house was filled with the noises made not by her cruel mother, but as soon as they stopped her, the house was filled with both tito and tita's scream and cries. They cried for her. They screamed for her. They were very scared to see May die in front of them. Mabilis na dinala nila tito si May sa ospital and they decided to sue her biological mother. Tito and tita managed to bring justice to May and they were able to bring her to their home."

"They never heard May talk for the whole two weeks but she was enchanted by the keyboards tito had kept for a long time. The three of them was finally being one and they finally had moved on from their own lives but tita and tito was once again haunted by May's identity. Nalaman kasi nilang hindi biological mother ni May ang asawa ng kaniyang tatay. It turned out that the one who almost killed May was not even her real mother. She was the child of her father from his first marriage. Her real mother abandoned them and lived a new life with her new lover. May's biological father happened to impregnate the mother she had known since birth but they had a miscarriage and because of that her hatred towards May grew bigger and bigger."

Bumuntong hininga si Noe. Even he felt sad and sorry for the life May had lived so far.

"They sent May for counseling and though they wanted to share to her the truth, they kept it from her because though they know it is a fact of May, they do not want to add more burden and pain to the little girl's heart. It pains them to see May hurting even more. You know what my mother realized? She was almost a living corpse. She lost the will to live and sealed the life inside of her. When May finally opened up to them, tito was discovered to be terminally ill. Their world slowly shattered. Even I and mom was speechless when we heard about it and we came to this..."
