Boyfriend. The word really stuck in my head. As soon as the word left her mouth I froze. Matteo never mentioned having a girlfriend. She had to be lying. Her face showed no sighs of lying but she could be a really great liar.
"What" I questioned in a whisper. My voice frail as if I spoke to loud I would break.
"We meet through Sergio at training, he thought I was going to be a boy" she smiled sadly "he was adorable and shy. He could barely talk to me without stuttering"
Hearing her talk about Matteo in such high manner made me feel happy inside. Knowing that someone cared for him as much as I did made me feel better about the loss of him.
"He tried so hard to impress Sergio, so fucking hard" her voice cracked.
Me eyes welded with warm tears making my vision blur. "I still can't believe he's gone" she whispered looking something behind me.
"I go to training every morning expecting to see his face, instead I see nothing. I feel nothing, just a void in my heart where he once lived" a tear face from her eyes but she wiped it so quickly I barely seen it.
"I never e-even told him I loved him" she cried softly. She raised her hands back up to her face to wipe the Falling tears. I inspected her ringed hands. She had two sliver rings on her right hand that was on her face. She had one sliver ring on her left hand that was by her side. Her nails were done in a nice light pink color.
"He loved you" I blurted out suddenly. She looked up at me into my eyes. "What?" She questioned.
"He left me a message, he told me to tell you that he loves you" I said but this time more calmly.
She searched my face for any signs of lying before smiling showing off her white teeth and what appeared to be a tooth gem on her fang.
"I now see why he was so fond on you" she said quietly. "He always talked about how much of a role model you were for him" a year ran down my face.
He thought of me as a role model?
That's ironic because I always thought of him as a role model. He was always the better one out of us both. He always listened to whatever an adult had to say and would give 100% in whatever he was doing. He worked himself so hard. No one but me seen how hard he worked.
He treated Giana as family even if she wasn't his biological mother. He always protected his mother and Giana no matter what happened.
Even if Sergio had beaten the shit out of him the day before he'd still protect his father at all cost. They didn't get along but Matteo still loved him and In the end...it killed him.
I looked at Ace, all this time he's been hiding her. To protect her. He knew Sergio would kill her if he found out there was a distraction.
My baby cousin wasn't a baby anymore. He was a man. A protector. He loved anything and everyone.
His girl stood in front of me, her and all her glory. She was beautiful. Her long curly hair reached mid back . Her pink plump lip glossed in lip gloss.
"Never in a million years I thought I'd actually like anyone Matteo would date, but here we are" she smiled widely. "Thank you" she mumbled softly.
"No thank you, Ace" my voice was soft "you loved my cousin when no one else would, you saved him" I took her hand in mine and softly held it.
"You'll see each other again, I just know it. He's watching over us Ace. He never left" she hugged me tightly. I hugged her back by wrapping my arms around her body.
We stayed in that hug for about a minute before she pulled back. "Oh and by the way Simon, your really pretty" she commented.
I snorted "why thank you but your way prettier then me" she shook her head 'no'
"No, I mean it your actually so pretty" I stayed silent before we Burst out in laugher.
Me and Ace continued to talk for what it felt like forever. She was the complete opposite of Matteo. Matteo doesn't talk much and is very shy. Ace was a happy and talkative person. I honestly loved her already. I got to know a side of Matteo that I'd never seen before.
"So Matteo told me you have a husband?" She asked while drinking some champagne from her wine glass. "Yeah, his name is Miles" I showed her the ring on my hand.
"That's one nice fucking ring" she compliments. "Thank you" I chuckled
"So who is this lucky man? Is he here?" She asked me looking around the place.
"Yeah he's here" I turned around looking for miles. He was talking to his guards about something. His hands were in his pockets as he continued on with his conversation. I admired his face as he talked, his jaw clenched every-time he moved his mouth.
Ace glanced at him from beside me "he's hot" she said bluntly causing me to choke.
This girl really had no filter.
I turned her with a smile on my face, she returned the same look and we burst out laughing. "I'm just saying" she wheezed making me laughed harder. Even though we sound like dying hyenas at this moment I was happy.
Once we finally stopped laughing Ace wiped a tear from underneath her eyes. "This is the first time I've laughed since... the incident " she smiled softly with a slight laugh;
She peered up to me with sad eyes, yet there was a bright and beautiful smile placed on her face. "Thank you" I said calmly. Her eyebrows pinched together.
"For what?" she asked, confused.
"For... loving him" a tear of sadness slipped from my eyes. "For caring for him, even up to his last days on e-earth...you loved him" I watch as Aces eyes welded up with tears.
"So I'm thanking you, for doing something not many people did for him" a tear slipped out from her eye as she sniffles. "You meant a lot to him, I could tell" I nodded my head sadly.
She pulled me into her warm embrace. She laid her head on my shoulder as I laid mine on hers.
"Thank you" she mumbled as her chest rose and fell at the pace of her cry's.
"Thank you" Ace croaked out. Her body trembled against mine as she let out soft cry's. Matteo may not be here but a piece of him, a piece of him is still here.
Matteo found love before his passing. He found his soulmate.
