Sienna
I missed the smell of the sea, the salty air always made me calm and I knew I had to return to it soon, my energy levels were dropping but I couldn't leave, not yet.
I hastily made the trek down the long hallway towards Dr. Moon's office with my clipboard hugged to my chest. I knocked on his door twice then opened it to find him on the phone, holding his finger up to keep me quiet.
"Yes, yes" he nods even though the person on the phone cannot see him "Sounds great, I'll see you Friday" He hangs up and sits back in his chair with a small smile
"Good news?" I asked
"Yeah, you could say that. Any changes?"
"A little, I did notice some low-level activity, I'm curious as to what is suddenly triggering it" I responded while showing him the data
"I am too but maybe this is the breakthrough we've been hoping for, let's run some more tests and see if this was just a fluke or if she's coming to"
"Okay" he touched my hand, noticing how cold it was. I pulled it back and took the clipboard from him "I'm fine"
"But for how long? You've been away for almost 5 months this time; I think you should go back to the island Sienna"
"Not yet, not until she's ready"
"We don't know if she ever will and you don't have much time before it calls you back, don't be stubborn" he spoke with a worried tone
"Two weeks, I'll go back in two weeks" I bargained
"Two weeks Sienna, not a day later" he shook his pointer finger at me
"I'm not a child Sebastian" I smacked his hand away. "Do you think you'll hear from Seokjin again?"
"I expect so, he's been reaching out to me more ever since Ma-ri connected with them" he replied, pushing his glasses up the bridge of his nose
"Does he know? About who you really are and what you do?" I chewed my bottom lip
"Not yet"
"Hm"
"What?"
"Nothing"
"You're a bad liar"
"I know"
"You're worried and I understand but trust me. Haven't I always come through?"
"Yes, you have. I guess I'm just getting nervous, but I have faith in you Sebastian"
"I am too. There is always a chance of all we've worked for crumbling but I'm choosing to believe it won't, I'm doing all I can to prevent that from happening"
"We won't fail, we have too much invested for this not to succeed, and it could help so many of us" Dr. Moon nodded and touched my shoulder
"I will make sure we don't Sienna, my promise to you still stands until it's fulfilled" I hadn't realized I was so tense, but I felt relieved at his reassuring words. I knew Sebastian was doing his best and I couldn't ask for any more than that
"Thank you, I'm going to sit with her for a little while longer, then I'm going to bed, I'm very tired"
"Eat something before you go to sleep"
"I already ate. Goodnight"
"Goodnight" he said so I left him alone. As I walk down the long hallway again, I feel my body getting more tired and weaker. I hoped I could last two more weeks, the days were getting harder to get through and the island was beckoning me to come home.
I arrived in her room to see her peacefully still as always, the beeping of the monitor and the slight rise of her chest the only indicators of life flowing through her body. I set the clipboard on a nearby table and sat down with a grateful moan. I touched her skin, it was warm and soft, giving me hope that she could wake up.
After sitting with her for about thirty minutes I was at my limit for the day, so I went to my room. I slowly removed my clothing and slipped into a long sleeve shirt and pants for sleeping then into my bed. I fell asleep immediately and my mind drifted back home, to my family on the island, to my past life and to my son...
Won-Jae.
