Chapter 23 - END

Hailey
----
Drifting through the darkness. No light. No hope. No Mum. No Chris...Occasionally little bits of conversations got through, "Problem....no.....might not......wake.....again....sorry," drifting in and out.
At first I used to scream and fight, until I realised I wasn't going to wake up from this oblivion any time soon. I missed waking up in the morning and seeing the light streaming through my bedroom window and the big fat bird that used to sing outside it. I missed going down the stairs to find my mum dancing around the kitchen whilst cooking breakfast.
Heck, I even miss school.
I miss by bestie.
I miss just having a simple hug from my mother.
I miss Chris, and now I have only just realised how stupid, stupid, stupid I was. Always pushing him away, never wanting him too close but was an important person in my life. I just never realised it.
Life is too short.
And I might just have to spend most of my precious one in this dump.
".....Won't make it...."
What? What as that about "wont't make it"!
I have to.

Chris
--
She might not wake up. Not this time. The doctors are telling us that she might not make it this now...
I don't know what to do anymore.
Just as she had started to accept me, the cruel world just harshly rips her away from me, leaving a gaping hole in my chest. My love, my life. I feel like I don't have a reason to live anymore.

Hailey's Mum
----------------------
No..
Not my baby...

No POV
---
The boy who loved her and the woman gave who gave birth to her, watched as she lay in the hospital bed.
Days and weeks passed, their eyes every so often glancing at her heart monitor. Sighing in relief at every heart beat that flashed across the screen.
Until one day...The spikes that indicated her heartbeat...stopped.
The line went flat, no more spikes, no heartbeat.
Immediatley an alarm rang out throughout the hospital, nurses and a doctor rushing in through the door to Hailey's room with a Defibrillator in tow. The nurses and the doctor pushed Chris and Hailey's mother to the back of the room and another eventually led them out of the door so they could have me room to work in to help save Hailey.
Chris held Hailey's mother in his arms as she broke down in the eerie lighted hospital corridor.
"Clear!" The doctor called out., all hands left Hailey's lifeless body.
The current passed from the pads to her body making her chest rise and collapse heaily onto the hospital bed with a thud.
Moisture gathering in his brow, the doctor glanced nervously back at the heat monitor to find it the same as before. He took a deep breath before giving it another shot.
"Clear!"
Another shock, Hailey's lifeless body once again rose and fell. Silence....
Then a beep.
Another. And another. Until they continued on at a steady pace.
Beep. Beep. Beep.
Chris had never heard a better sound in his life.
Hailey's chest visabley rose and fell in time with her breaths, but just to be on the safe side..
they still put a medical ventilater on her to help her breath.

Chris
---------------
He sat next to Hailey's bed, holding her hand tight and his head resting on the side of her bed. Not wanting to let her go. Ever again.
She had left him before and he did not want to experience that sharp searing pain that had gone through him.
He sat up in shock when he felt a hand it. The loose hand that was held so tightly between his slowly squeeze back.
He sat up and looked down at Hailey, her eyelids fluttering and her head moving slightly, side to side as she awoke.
"Hailey..." He whispered, tears streaming down his face.
"Hey..." She whispered bringing her free hand up to remove the ventilator, "I came back for you..."
