Blake’s POV

“You seriously aren’t accepting any job applications?” I asked the petite woman behind the desk. She sighed as she pulled her hands off of her keyboard and peered at me through her glasses.

“Ma’am. For the 4th time, we are not accepting job applications at the moment. If you would like I could transfer you to-“

“No, it’s ok. Thanks for the help.” I politely smiled before turning around to walk out of the office building. This was the third office building I went to looking for a job. Not just some job that my parents made me get so I could learn about life. No, my parents didn’t want me to get a job. But I needed this job so I could finally get away from them. And this record label was the last building in the entire city of Los Angeles. I had gone to everyone, trying to find something, anything really. Before I could make it out the door, someone stopped me.

“Um excuse me, I couldn’t help over hearing you talking about needing a job. Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Scooter Braun.” The man, who called himself Scooter, stuck out his hand for me to shake it.

“Blake Auburn.” I responded while shaking his hand.

“I think I may have a job offer for you.” he said. “How do you feel about Justin Bieber?”

Justin Bieber. Unfortunately, I wasn’t living under a rock and I knew exactly who the 17, almost 18, year old boy was. He was the golden boy. He was perfect. He was talented, sweet, down to earth, romantic, everything a 17 year old girl like me could want, right? Wrong.

Let’s get one thing straight, I did not like Justin Bieber. I didn’t swoon when his songs came on the radio. I didn’t sit behind my computer and tweet him all day. I didn’t care about his personal life. To me, he was just some teenage boy who hit it big. Nothing more, nothing less.

Scooter’s question was harder to answer then you would think.

“He seems cool.” I said in the most casual tone I could.

“Seems cool, that’s it? I take it you’re not a fan?” he asked questioningly.

“Depends on how you know him.” I responded. I didn’t want to tell this man my feelings on the teen heart-throb before I knew who he was.

“I’m his manager. But please, tell me your honest opinion. The job I have for you doesn’t necessarily require you to like him.” He skeptically replied. I started to feel more and more curious about what this job was. What was I going to do, be his dog walker?

“Why don’t I take you up to my office and we can discuss it more.” Scooter said when he noticed I was deep in thought. I tend to do that a lot. Getting lost in thought is just one of my many talents!

“Before I go anywhere with you, what is this job offer?” I asked impatiently. This was valuable time that I was wasting here. I could be out looking for jobs right now.

“How would you feel about dating Justin Bieber?” Scooter asked, bracing himself for my reaction.

My mind almost blew up from the ridiculousness of the question. “No thanks.” I said before turning on my heels to walk out of the main doors.

“We would give you a place to live, food to eat, and you will get to travel the world.” He called after me. I had to admit that it was a pretty good opportunity. I could get away from my family, for reasons I don’t feel comfortable expressing at the moment. But fake dating Justin Bieber? I wasn’t sure it was good enough to endure that. Scooter realized that his offer still wasn’t good enough, so he tried again.

“You would be paid!” he yelled at me once again. I stopped dead in my tracks and turned around. Scooter was already walking towards me.

“That- that changes things.” I told him when he was in earshot of me.

“Just come with me to my office and we can lay down all the details. If you still don’t want to accept the job by the end of the day, then fine.” Scooter told me.

“I suppose that’s fair.” I said half to myself, half to Scooter. He smiled and started walking towards the elevators. He signaled for me to join and I did. When the elevator doors dinged and slid open, a wave of regret and quilt surrounded me.

For some reason, I had a gut feeling that following Scooter was one of the worst decisions I have ever made.
