Calla
"Oh my gosh Calla! You have got to check out the Alpha!" Deidra screeches from behind me. I'm folding towels and dropped the one I was working on.
"Okeeeey." I pick up the towel to revoke it.
"Like, hawt."
"I'm not interested in checking out a mated guy." I muse.
"That's the thing. He doesn't smell mated." She jumps up on the washing machine. Doesn't she have floors to clean?
"Wait, so he has a son but doesn't mark the mom?" I'm not sure I like this guy.
"I'm not sure that's HIS son." Deidra remarked.
"That makes no sense."
"I think it's the chick's son. He looks more like her than the Alpha." Deidra thought for a minute. "Maybe he is planning on taking her as a mate, but not sure because she comes with baggage."
"Ok, conspiracy theorist." I laughed. "First, a baby isn't baggage. They happen. She could be any of you." Deidra knew what I was hinting at.
"Nuh uh. I've closed shop since Easton promised to mark me, but didn't after I gave him the goods." I snickered. I'm not sure how honest she was being.
"Can you?" I pointed to the fitted sheets. I can't fold them to save my life. Normally I would roll them in a ball and hope no one discovered my botched sheet job. Since I'm normally the one that changes the sheets when the request is put in, I don't worry too much about it.
"You need to learn how to do this right." She hops off the washing machine and starts folding.
"I don't have the reach you have." It's true. Most the she wolves were taller than 5 and a half feet. I reached a whopping five feet one and three quarters of an inch. Probably another reason why I'm a pet. Deidra could be a model. Silky blond hair, toned body, and bright smile. If I brought some of the omegas to town with me and visited Peter and Dave, I would have free smoothies for a while. They rarely leave pack lands. And when they do, they go to the city which is a couple hours away.
"So I hear you have the only house keeping key to his suite." She is doing some magic trick with those perfectly folded sheets.
I laughed. "I'm not letting you in there."I'm outside the Alpha suite and knock on the door. I hear a feminine "come in." On the other side and walk in.
"Hi." I smile and the stunning woman holding a baby. "I'm Calla, your housekeeper while you are staying here. I have fresh towels."
"Oh! You made those cookies!" She got excited and the baby squirmed in her arms. "I wrote a note to ask you for more if that's ok."
"Of course!" I say as I walk to the bathroom in the master suite. I put the towels in the cabinet. "Is there anything else?!" I call back. I felt a tug on my leg. I looked down. Oh, he is cute. The baby was using my calf to pull himself up. He must have followed me. I reached down, pick him up and he easily settles in my arms.
I walk out of the master and into the main room looking for the woman. "Hello?"
"Just a sec." I hear from the other room. I get a proper look at the baby. He is smiling at me.
"Aren't you the flirt." I smile back. He snuggles into me. I sigh. Oh, I could get used to this unconditional love I'm getting. He smells wonderful.
"Aren't you the baby whisperer." The woman says coming out of her room.
"Oh no. He crawled to me and how can I not hold him?"
"You don't get it." She smirked. "That little demon doesn't let anyone hold him except Gage and sometimes me, if he is tired enough."
"I don't believe that." Little demon? No way. This kid looks like a cherub.
"I'm Sandra, that's Caleb by the way. And yes, believe it." She reached out to hand me something. It was some money. I grabbed it confused. "It's for you, a tip."
I examine it. A hundred dollar bill. "I can't accept this." I hike Caleb on my hip. "I get paid."
"Nonsense, take it-" she stopped. "You are human." She sniffs.
"And I smell?"
She laughs. "No, this is the first pack we've been to that had a human working for them."
"I hope that isn't a problem. This is the only place I really know." I was genuinely worried.
"I don't think so. But if it is, I can probably convince Gage that he needs to make it not."
"Thank you." I sighed in relief . I looked at Caleb. He was falling asleep. "Is this ok?"
"Yes, he's been difficult since Gage went on a run. A good nap before meal time will help."
"Then I'll put him in his crib." I brought him to the crib and ever so gently laid him down. He didn't stir.
"You ARE a baby whisperer." Sandra exclaimed. "I need to give you a bigger tip."
"Nah, but next time you want to give me one, you can tuck it in my panties." I smirked. I looked back at Caleb and noticed something missing. "Where is the teddy bear?"
