Meeting Steve Harrington (X Reader)

Summer is over and done with in the blink of an eye, did I do much? Nope, i just relaxed, ignored Billy, Chilled with Max and done my own thing. Im still great friends with Nancy and Jonathan as Max is friends with their siblings but I havent seen anyone much really, they all went and got jobs and have been pretty busy.

But today, today is the day I start my job. Now, turns out I didnt do great at school, it actually turns out im a little slow so graduation was an embarrassment to say the least. Billy somehow done better than me, rattled everyone that news did. But hey, I got a job still so thats something I guess.

I get into my uniform, Scoops, yea, the ice cream place. At least I make the uniform look cute. I get myself ready and make my way there. I got told the other person that works there would give me an introduction to the place and teach me how to scoop ice cream and thats all so its pretty straight forward.

I walk into the mall, making my way straight to work with nerves filling my belly. "Hey im y/n im new here, hey im y/n, hey!" I practise ways to introduce myself before finally entering.

"Hi im y/n Im new-" I freeze mid sentence and my heart starts racing "Harrington" my jaw drops as he turns around behind the counter. "No way" he grins at me. "You're the new person?" He laughs at me "im not sure who you're laughing at? The hat covers your best feature" I sarcastically smile at him, causing him to take the hat off.

"Come on around" he opens up the door and allows me around the back. "It's nice to see you" he leans back on the ice cream counter "Yea" I give him an awkward smile. Of course the job I get, Steve already works at. "No one told me you work here?" I tilt my head in confusion. "Yea I kept it quiet, obvious reasons" he points at his uniform causing me to laugh.

"Weirdly enough the blue really suits you" I smile at him. "How have you been anyways?" He asks "Yea good, just relaxing, what about you, the hair is still in tact" I joke, forcing him to let out a small laugh "Of course it is, same ive just been working" he shrugs.

"Is this going to be weird with us, considering how things were left" I stand fiddling with my nails as my nerves start to take over. "Why are you anxious?" He asks "what?" I put my hands down by my side "You play with your nails when youre nervous or something, I noticed it at school" he looks down at the ground.

"Oh.. well are we okay?" He looks up at me with a smile "Of course, I dont hold grudges" he walks forward and pulls me into a hug "Oh okay" I gently hug him back, but im still in shock that im now having to work day in and out with him.

"All you need to know is how to scoop ice cream" he shrugs and grabs a scoop, showing me how to correctly do it. "And learnt the menu, its simple" he smiles "Alright cool" I smile and head around to the front with him.

"So, did you do anything exciting over summer?" He asks as the store remains silent with no one coming in. "No, just hung out with Max, saw Nancy and Jonathan every now and then but they're working a lot" I lean back against the wall. "Yourself?"

"Yea I didnt do anything, been working here but thats all, what about Billy" I stand staring at him for a minute "Uh yea, just doing stuff" he nods "Does he still-" I let out a sigh "seriously Steve" I snap "im just asking, I havent seen you in ages" he throws his arms up in the air. I roll my eyes at him "yes, simple answer yes" I shake my head "Is that what the bruises on your arms are from?" He points at my arm and looks up at me.

"Customers" I tilt my head towards the front desk. I stand back and watch as he does an awful job at flirting with this group of girls, who eventually walk away without buying anything.

"Oh god" I burst out laughing. "What?" He turns around ruffling his hair "that was painful to watch" I continue to laugh at him "alright stop, stop laughing" he demands "so you use this job to try hook up with girls" I wipe away the tears that roll down my cheeks from laughing so much.

"Ive lost my touch, no one wants Harrington" he laughs and leans on the counter opposite me. "I bet you couldn't pull anyone working here in this uniform" he raises an eyebrow "Wanna bet?" I grin as I look behind and see a group of guys approaching. "Watch and learn Harrington" I walk around and swap places with him.

"Hi boys" I walk up to the counter with a grin in my face. "Uh hey, could I try a bit of the pineapple flavour" I lean down and scoop a small bit onto the sample spoons and pass it to him, making sure our hands touch slightly. I wink at him as he looks at me, taking it from my hand and trying it. "Anything else you're interested in" I ask while leaning on the counter, looking the one talking up and down as my grin grows.

"Apart from you, no, nothing else" he leans forward onto the counter. "Guess ill see you another time then" I wink and turn around, and head back to Steve as the group walk away.

"That is how its done" I cross my arms and giggle "Jeez" he widens his eyes "what?" I question quickly "you got me all hot and flustered let alone that guy" he chuckles "Oh shut up" I roll my eyes. "We need to start a board up of how much you suck at getting girls" I smile and grab a white board and some pens.

It's going to be great working with Steve, I think at least... But the moment I saw him something switched in me. I missed him? Part of me just wanted to hug him and not let go, kiss him like we did in that stupid class room. Part of me is so excited and happy ill be with him every single day, but another part of me doesnt want to fall for him or get hurt and attached.

What do I do?
