Rosie Ballenger awoke to the sound of her shrill Mother’s voice bellowing at her little brother to “get his arse upstairs, and get dressed”. She heaved a heavy sigh, knowing full well what was going to happen next.

“Rosieeee!” Joseph shouted at the top of his lungs, as he bounded into Rosie’s room, racing over to the bed, and jumping on it to wake her up, as he did most morning when their Mum scolded him for not being ready for school in time.

“Morning Joey” Rosie mumbled, her mind still beneath the waves of sleep that held her so tightly, opening the duvet for him to climb underneath, “Only ten more minuets okay? Cause I gotta get ready for school too” She told him softly, wrapping them both up into the covers, happy to have him in her arms. He always seemed to soothe her no matter how bad her mood was, what with his cute smile and laugh, and the way he snuggled close to her, warming her with his embrace, even though he could be an annoying little crap at times, she still loved him.

“Rosie, Joseph are you two ready for school yet?!” Their Mum yelled up the stairs

“Shit” Rosie mumbled underneath her breath, her eyes drifting to her alarm clock that lay on her bedside table, which only confirmed her suspicions. They were both late for school, again.

“Joey, come on we’ve got to get up now little man” Rosie shook his shoulders gently in order to awake him, despite how cute he looked when he was sleeping, she had to disturb that serenity, because if not, then they would both get the wrath of their Mum, and nobody wanted to see that.

“Do we have too Wosie” Joseph asked, playing on his cuteness, by pronouncing her name in a baby tone,

“Yes sweetie we do, now come on, or we are definitely gonna be late” She replied chuckling as she threw back the covers, engulfing them both in the chilly air that surrounded the room every morning.

“Fine” He pouted, slowly sliding himself out of bed, before practically crawling to his room to get dressed.

With mere minutes to spare, Rosie threw on a pair of denim short, coupled with a black tank top, and some converse to match. As for her hair, well she couldn’t really attempt to tame her unruly natural curls in the limited amount of time she had left, so she just ran a brush through it quickly, clipping her fringe back as she hated having it in her eyes for school. Grabbing her bag and phone, she raced down the stairs, jumping down the last two, grabbing her car keys shouting her brother so that she could drop him off, as her Mum had already gone to work, leaving her to sort the both of them out once again.

“Now don’t forget to meet me at the gates at the end of the day, okay?” Rosie asked her little brother as she dropped him off at school,

“Okay Rosie I won’t” He smiled back hugging her quickly before racing off to go play with his friends.

“Shit, shit, shit, shit” Rosie cursed to herself as she ran into school, tripping over her feet a few times in her rush to get to class.

“Good morning Miss Ballenger” a stern familiar voice sounded out behind her

“Good morning Miss Smithe” Rosie plastered a fake smile onto her face, swivelling on her heel to meet her fate,

“And what time do you call this then young lady?” She asked giving Rosie a scolding look, that felt like it would burn right through into her soul if she looked into them for too long.

“I had to drop my little brother off at school Miss it really isn’t my fault” Rosie replied hoping that she would let her off,

“Well that just isn’t acceptable young lady; you should set off earlier then if that is the case!” Miss Smithe screeched back, her eyes bulging out of her head, and a large vein pulsing in her neck, causing her face to turn a deep crimson, her anger prominent in every single word and movement,
