(Narrator's POV)
"We have arrived, Queen Eclipsa!" Heckapoo exclaimed as she and Steven walked in where Eclipsa was talking with Meteora and a woman with a blue dress and hearts on her cheeks. And after Steven looked at Meteora and saw she had similar features to Eclipsa, the hybrid deduced that she was her daughter and the woman with hearts on her cheeks was the former Queen Moon Butterfly.
"So we finally meet. Mother has taken quite an interest in you, Steven. As long as she approves, you are welcome among us. I had my own reservations but I trust my mother's judgement. But be warned: Betray us and expect swift retribution." Meteora said sternly as Steven nodded in reply as Heckapoo shook her head.
"Relax, Meteora. Cut Steven some slack, would you? I get you're still upset at what Marco did to Star but that doesn't mean we can just shun out everyone. Besides, Steven seems like a good guy. I don't see the issue having him around." She said as Meteora gave Heckapoo a look.
"You felt the same way about Marco, did you not? And look how THAT turned out. In any case, let us go, Heckapoo. You and I have some Commission related matters to attend to. If you'll excuse us, Mother." Meteora said as Heckapoo groaned and rolled her eyes.
"Great..just when I was enjoying the breather. Ah well. See ya around, Steven." She said before leaving with Meteora, leaving Steven with Eclipsa and Moon, the latter looking at the hybrid with a look of both sternness and concern on her face.
"It's nice to meet you, Steven. I understand you and my daughter had heated words earlier?" She asked as Steven thought for a moment who she could mean before putting two and two together and realizing she was talking about Star.
"You mean Star? Yes her and I had an argument earlier over something. She wanted to know more about where I came from and what happened to me and was asking so much so fast that I got annoyed and angry with her." Steven said as Moon sighed.
"Some things never change, I suppose. Star means well. She always has meant well. But she often comes off as overbearing, overeager or just plain rude. But please do not bear any ill will towards her. I ask you that as her mother." She said as Steven nodded.
"I already forgave her. But if you don't mind me asking, who is Marco and how did he hurt Star? You couldn't tell she was hurt by looking at her." The hybrid asked as Eclipsa sighed.
"Marco was boyfriend. Well…now ex boyfriend. The two of them were in love and even engaged to be married. But a week after the engagement, Marco was caught in bed with another woman. Star and myself saw it in a viewing portal and she was heartbroken. I can still remember her crying in my arms." She said as Moon spoke.
"As it that wasn't bad enough, Marco walked in here the next day as if nothing had happened. But once Star threw the engagement ring right in his face, he knew he had been found out and was escorted out of this realm immediately. He tried to make something up to save his own skin but Star nor myself wanted to hear any of it. We never wanted to see him again. The only reason he was even allowed to live and walk out of here was because of his family in the human realm. The fact that Star still goes there is astonishing. But then again, she's fallen in love with someone else and is happy again, so I can't complain." She said as Steven was quiet for a moment. He truly felt bad for Star.
"Now I feel bad. Don't worry, Ms Butterfly. I won't hold anything against Star. Things are fine between her and I." The hybrid said with a smile as Eclipsa smiled at him.
"Such a kind person you are, Steven. I can see why Eclipsa seems to have taken a shine to you." Moon said as Eclipsa blushed a bit.
"Moon! Honestly, don't say all of that! What is wrong with you?" She said, flustered as Steven blushed a bit himself. But why? Why was HE blushing now? It was true he himself had taken a shine of his own to Eclipsa but he hadn't outright said it nor did he intend to. Who knows how odd and awkward that would sound?
At that moment, Star arrived with a smile on her face. After greeting her mother and Eclipsa, she then turned her attention to Steven.
"Hey Steven! I think I figured out how I can make up for earlier: How about you come to the human realm with me? Particularly Echo Creek. I'm meeting some friends there and I'm sure they'd love to meet you!" Star said as Steven nodded.
"Alright..sounds good then." He replied as Star smiled.
"Great! I'll see you then!" She said before saying goodbye to her mother and Eclipsa and leaving.
"Well. I'm going to explore Mewni a bit more before heading back to the village. It was nice meeting you, Ms Butterfly." Steven said with a smile before leaving as Moon looked at Eclipsa with a smirk.
"What? What is it, Moon?" She asked.
"You know he's a fine looking young man. And I can tell by looking at you that you want to get closer to him. So why deny it, Eclipsa?" Moon asked as Eclipsa sighed.
"Because I am Queen and Globgor….." She began to say…
"Would want you to be happy. If you do have feelings, you shouldn't ignore them. I speak from experience: Being Queen should not stop you from being yourself. That kind of attitude led me astray. I was so obsessed with being Queen that Mina took advantage of it and…well you remember. My point is: You should pursue these feelings you have." Moon said as Eclipsa sighed.
Maybe. Just maybe….Moon was right.
Before I go into hiding from the legions of Starco fans, it looks like Moon has figured Eclipsa out. But will the current Queen follow the advice of the former Queen?
