(Eclipsa's POV)
I had preparations made for Steven's arrival to my chambers. It was going to feel odd sharing a room with someone that isn't Globgor or Meteora. But I felt safe around Steven and I trusted him enough to believe he wouldn't try to take advantage of me in any inappropriate way….though a small part of me shamefully wanted him to….
Nevertheless, I kept such thoughts to myself for a reason and did my best to ignore that part of my mind. At that moment, however, Meteora came in with a grim look on her face. What could have happened?
"Mother. We discovered something that is worth investigating." She said as I nodded in compliance.
"Report what you've found." I said as Meteora cleared her throat and began to explain as she used her magic to create a viewing portal.
"As you can see, there's magical readings outside of our own realm. But oddly enough, there seems to be the most coming from here. And even more odd? It's the same place you discovered Steven. I have reason to believe Steven is far more than he seems but I assume you knew that already. In any case, I'd like permission to —" She began to say until I cut her off.
"Permission denied, Meteora. You are not going to run rampant over Steven's home out of nothing more than a pure whim. If there's magical readings coming from there? It doesn't matter as long as it's not harmful to us in any way. You know this, so why even think I would give you permission?" I asked in annoyance as she looked away from me.
"I'm just looking out for the realm as you would in my position. If I'm going to rebuild the trust between Mewni and the Commission, then I have to hold Mewni's best interests at heart. And forgive me for what I'm about to say, but Steven is an outsider. He may be your guest but he's still not one of us. So his feelings on the matter are quite irrelevant…." She said as I had finally had enough.
"Meteora. Leave now or I shall personally strip you of your position on the Commission. How dare you say such a thing? I would think after the atrocities caused by Mina that we all would learn how important it is to trust one another. But it seems you haven't learned a thing!" I snapped as Meteora simply nodded and left my chambers. I was furious at what she said and what she wanted to do.
*Meanwhile right outside Eclipsa 's chambers*
(Steven's POV)
"It's right this way. Eclipsa should be waiting for you." Star said as she led me to Eclipsa's chambers. On the way in, we saw Meteora come out but she looked upset. I was going to just not say anything to her until she stopped me herself, clearly with something to say to me.
"You. Mother won't grant me permission to look more into you. I assume it's to protect you but nevertheless: You are an outsider. A guest of my mother but an outsider no less! And as such, you are to defer to the rules and regulations of Mewni. So I insist you inform my mother that you've given me full permission to inspect where you came from due to the level of magical energy I picked up from there." Meteora said as I gave her a look.
"So let me get this straight: You expect me to allow you to run roughshod over my home just for some pointless inspection of magic? Or just so you can look into things that really aren't any of your business? Not going to happen." I said as Star and I walked past her.
But she still wouldn't let it go as she then roughly grabbed my shoulder.
"Let me ask you this then: What is the source of the magical energy we picked up? At least tell me that much. If you truly insist on being defiant, then at least be a bit courteous when doing so." She asked as I sighed.
"Let me put it this way: It's a source of magical energy that even if I allowed you to search my home, you could never access it. Know why? Because it's behind a door that only reacts to a certain energy. And since my family is gone, guess who's the only one who can open the door now?" I said as Meteora crossed her arms.
"Then you admit it! I demand you grant me access!" She snapped as Star crossed her arms.
"I don't think you're in a position to demand anything, Meteora. Remember: You're one the main reasons the Magical High Commission lost all trust with the people of Mewni. You know you have no room trying to give orders in your current position. So stop trying to act like you have some authority you know you don't have." She said as Star and I knocked on Eclipsa's door and she let us in, leaving Meteora infuriated.
I knew what Meteora sensed: The Gem Magic in the Temple. Likely from the various Gem artifacts in there. And considering the amount that my family collected over the years, they're probably giving off a lot of energy.
But I'm not going to let Meteora or anyone else try and run all over the Temple. The Artifacts inside are all I have to remember my family by and I'm not going to let Meteora or anyone else get their hands on them.
See ya next chapter!
