(Narrator's POV)

Everyone waited on bated breath, hoping that Meteora was OK. That she was victorious against Toffee. But hours went by and still no word or any sign of what had happened had yet to show itself. Just when it seemed like Eclipsa's motherly instincts would finally take over and she was going to send a platoon of knights to go find her daughter or any of her troops, the castle doors opened and in staggered a knight, nearly out of breath and about to collapse from his injuries.

"What happened?!? Where is Meteora?!! Where is my daughter?!?" Eclipsa yelled as Steven tried to keep her calm. But he knew that was not possible, especially after the knight's response:

"I'm sorry, your highness. But Meteora has fallen to Toffee."

It was like the air left the room. Everyone was silent. Heckapoo, Star, Moon and Eclipsa all had tears in their eyes as Steven had a saddened look on his face. It hurt even more since Meteora had just made amends with him. But before anyone could properly grieve……

"Well well. It's been quite some time, Butterfly family." The sinister voice of Toffee said as he appeared in the room. Everyone was ready for a fight and even though this was Steven's first time meeting the villain, it was clear from the hybrid's face that he already hated him. And as anyone can tell you, if a guy like Steven Universe hates you? You know you're a horrible person.

"Give me one good reason why we shouldn't just obliterate you where you stand. You've got a lot of nerve coming here after what you did to my daughter." Eclipsa said in pure seething rage as Toffee simply chuckled.

"Because as you can tell, I'm not actually in the room with you. I'm simply projecting an image so I can deliver a message: I'm going to destroy all magic, even if it means destroying you all along with it. But I'm not stopping at Mewni. One of the knights with your dearly departed daughter mentioned someone in your presence named Steven who holds quite a few secrets of his own. I'm assuming that's you since I'm not familiar with your face." The Villian said as his gaze turned to Steven.

"Yeah that's me. But I'm not telling you anything." The hybrid said in defiance as Toffee chuckled.

"And why not? Really, what does Mewni mean to you? What could it possibly mean to you? What could magic in general mean to you? Search your heart and tell me that magic hasn't been something that's been more of a burden to you than an asset?" He said as Steven went silent for a moment.

Whether Toffee is right or not, magic is a part of Steven's life, always has been and likely always will be. If Toffee truly wins, that means death for the hybrid. Half his being is pure magic and he's already experienced what it's like to go without it.

Toffee, however, is unaware of this.

Which is an edge Steven has. He knew first hand what it's like for a magical being to start dying from lack of magic.

So he knows just how too far Toffee really is with his plan. And that's why he knew exactly what Toffee was trying to do by manipulating him.

"It's true. Magic has caused me a lot of pain. It's taken things from me. But you know what? It's allowed me to gain a lot as well. Truth be told, I'm on Mewni because my life was ruined by magic. But if what happened hadn't happened? I never would have found someone who knows what it means to lose those close to you. In other words, Toffee: I may have suffered a lot because of magic, but I'm not going to let someone like you ruin the good magic has done for me either." Steven said as Eclipsa blushed and smiled.

"Very well then. I suppose we'll have to do this the hard way. We'll see each other again soon." Toffee said as the image disappeared.

"We have to put him down for good this time. No questions. Toffee goes down this time." Star said as Eclipsa kissed Steven on the cheek. At that moment, however, the hybrid looked at Heckapoo.

"Hey Heckapoo. Do you mind making another portal? This time I want to go somewhere personal." Steven said as Heckapoo nodded.

"Sure but where, Steven?" She asked as Steven took a deep breath and said:

"My home."

A big reason why Toffee was such a great villian was that he was on point and right about a lot of what he said in the show. His words are his true magic, so it's no shock that he'd try and manipulate Steven. Anyway, next chapter: Steven returns home for the first time since his family's demise.

See ya next chapter!
