Y/n's pov:

I woke up, the light streaming through the window, still in my jeans, tank top, and- hold on. I forgot to give Pony his sweatshirt back! Oh well. I'll return it to him soon. I have his phone number after all. I ended up walking into the kitchen to find no one home, and a note on the table.

I'm off to work. I'm sorry for yelling at you last night. I'm sorry for all of this. I just want you to be safe. As for your father, I don't know what he wants anymore. These have been a tough couple of years for all of us Y/n. I really want to be closer to you. To feel like you're my daughter again. On that note, stay safe and have a good day.

                                                                                      I ♥ you, Mom

That was the most heartfelt note my mom had ever written for me. And for the first time ever, it felt real. But there was one problem. Where was my dad? My mom was at work, but my dad should be home and he's nowhere in sight. As much as that's a problem, it's not mine. It's probably better this way anyway. Since I had nothing better to do, I decided to return Pony's sweatshirt. First I showered and changed clothes so it didn't look like I slept in them (even though I did). When I got in the shower, everything was good, until I turned my body towards the water. That was the worst burning pain, it radiated throughout my whole body. I totally forgot that I had 42 stitches in my body. After my living hell of a shower was over, I started to walk to the Curtis house. When I got there, I hesitantly rang the doorbell. Sodapop answered, and looked surprised to see me.

"Oh! Hey Y/n! What's up?" He looked like he was in a hurry, and I assumed he was going to work because he was in a DX uniform. I'm pretty sure that's a gas station downtown, but it's only the beginning of my second day, so what would I know?

"Hey Soda! Um... I was just wondering if Pony was home? I forgot to give back his sweatshirt last night." I let out a light laugh to keep it from becoming awkward.

"Uh... yeah! He's home!" Soda let out a holler.

"Ponyboy Curtis! Get your butt out here! I gotta go. Nice seeing you Y/n!" And in the blink of an eye, he was running to work. It was quite funny to watch actually. Ponyboy must have been doing something, or thought he was in trouble, because he ran into the room with his hair a mess, and his face flustered.

"Jesus Soda! What!?" It took him a couple of seconds to realize that Soda wasn't there, so I decided to speak up.

"Sorry...." I said, waving as he jerked his head towards the door.

"Not Soda. Disappointed?" He gave me a grin.

"Not at all! What's up Y/n?" He was in the doorway now, smiling brightly in my face.

"I forgot to give this back to you last night." I held up the sweatshirt, and he smiled.

"Oh! You could've kept it! But thanks! Come in?" He was gesturing towards the house.

"Actually, I think I'm gonna explore town. Y'know.... Since I didn't get to yesterday." He looked at me for a cold second. He must think I'm crazy.

"Are you crazy!?" Called it!

"At least let me walk with you." I looked at him, previously looking at my feet.

"Huh?"

"I couldn't stand to see you get hurt again. Can I walk with you?" That's not a bad idea... and I would be with Ponyboy!

"Um.... Y'know what? Sure. You can walk with me." He gave me the biggest smile.

"Well... what are we waiting for then?"
