It took McQueen a while to calm down after realizing that his abductor had paralyzed him. Most likely, they had done something to his engine. Was it permanent? Was it fixable? Would he ever race again? These questions were swirling around in his head, and he would have had a panic attack if he hadn't remembered some breathing exercises Filmore had once shown him.
As strange as the situation was, he was thankful that he wasn't alone. While Woody and Buzz were strange-looking (and he had a feeling that the others were strange-looking as well), they, Jack Skellington, Moana, and Nala had all helped him to feel better.
For the past two hours, the prisoners had been getting to know one another. Moana (who he learned was called a human) told them all about her adventure across the ocean. Jack Skellington (who was something called a skeleton), told them all about Halloweentown and his attempts at making Christmas (although Moana and Nala didn't know what Christmas or Halloween were). Woody and Buzz told them about their fights against a toy abuser named Sid and a toy kidnapper named Al. Nala (who was something called a lion), told the story of how her husband (or mate) had reclaimed her kingdom's throne from his murderous uncle.
It was after McQueen finished telling the story of how he found Radiator Springs that the group of six realized something. They still had no idea where they were, who had brought them there, why they'd been brought there, or more importantly, how they were going to get out.
Jack was the first to come up with a plan. "Perhaps, when our abductor comes back in, we can scare him! Then, while he's paralyzed with fear, we can get the answers we need and escape back to our homes!"
"I like your enthusiasm," Nala replied, "but I think you're the only one here who's actually scary."
"Don't be modest," Jack called to her, "everyone has the potential to be scary."
"While I'm sure that's true," she answered, "we still need a different plan."
"Woody and Buzz can get over the walls." McQueen offered, glancing at the toys who were still sitting on his hood. "What if they climb over and try to find the keys?"
"Unfortunately, my friend," Buzz answered, "that's easier said than done." He pointed at the top of the cell door. While there were gaps in the walls between cells, the walls that held the cell doors were solid. The only way into the hall was through the door. If McQueen had been able to move, he would have stamped his tire in disappointment.
"Maybe," Moana said, "we should wait here until we see who's behind this. It might be a good idea to see what we're up against before we try to break out."
"I agree." Nala spoke up. "We don't even know where we are. We need to get answers before anything else."
"A wonderful idea, Miss Moana." Jack announced. To McQueen's confusion, the skeleton seemed almost cheerful at their situation. He brushed it off, remembering that he was the king of Halloween. Maybe he saw all of this as fun.
"It's a good plan," Woody said, "but how long do we have to wait before that guy shows up?"
Nala growled softly before answering. "We don't know. We haven't seen him yet."
"We've only been here for a few hours," Moana replied, "and he hasn't shown up once."
"We only knew that he was in here when we heard him pushing Mr. McQueen in from the portal." Jack added.
"Wait, portal?" McQueen looked to Woody and Buzz for an explanation, but they were as confused as he was.
Before the skeleton could further explain what he meant by portal, they all heard a sound that turned their attention to the hallway. The sound of a key turning in a lock.
