"This is his idea of a good plan?" Woody said incredulously. He and Buzz were hiding in an old tote bag of Red's, which Moana was carrying as she walked up to the employee entrance of the Magic Kingdom.
"We're going to have to trust them," Buzz responded, although there was obvious tension in his voice. The space ranger wasn't positive about this plan either.
According to the kids, there were numerous actors and actresses in the parks who spent the entire day pretending to be characters. Often, they were put in makeup and costumes to look exactly like the characters they were portraying. Which is why Moana was supposed to pretend to be an actress and walk through the entrance.
"Just tell them that you got into costume," Red had instructed her as she handed her the tote bag, "and realized you forgot something. Then say you left your ID card inside. Someone will think you're an actress, and they'll let you in."
Moana had rehearsed what she was supposed to say countless times, and was ready. Still, Woody could tell from how tightly she was gripping the bag that she was nervous. When she stopped, Woody peeked out of a tiny hole in the bag, and saw that they were at the door. There was someone already there, about to enter. They turned to look at Moana.
"Hi!" She said a little too cheerily. "I'm sorry, I finished getting into my costume and had to go get my bag. I left my ID card inside. Can you let me in, please?"
"Sure," the employee said. They opened the door, then turned to stare at her for a second. "Wait..."
Woody heard Moana give a silent gasp. "What's wrong?"
The employee was silent a moment before answering. "They hired you to play Moana?"
"...Yes."
"Sorry, it's just, and don't take this the wrong way, but you don't really look like Moana."
"...What?"
"I mean, you'll convince the kids with the dress and necklace, but I just don't think you're that convincing. No offense, of course." He entered, holding the door open for her. She took it, giving a fake smile.
"See you around." He left, making his way down the hall. The girl smiled (hoping it didn't show her annoyance) and turned. She was in a long tunnel. Woody, peeking out, remembered that Red had told them that a series of tunnels ran under the park, meant to help the employees change, do work, and move from one place to the other without attracting attention. Moana started walking calmly, then ducked into a broom closet.
Woody and Buzz jumped out of the tote bag, and shut the door just in time for Moana to start speaking. "What does he mean I don't 'look like Moana'? I am Moana! Who does he–"
"Never mind!" Woody interrupted. They needed to stick to the plan. "Quick, put the hoodie on and make your way to the park! We'll meet you in front of the castle!"
Moana nodded and reached into the tote. To disguise herself, Red had also given her an old hoodie and sandals of Marisol's to wear. It was a little big, and covered the top half of her skirt, but the sandals fit fine and the outfit made her look a little more like a guest than...well, than Moana.
Buzz, who was keeping watch through a small hole at the bottom of the door, signaled to Woody that the coast was clear. Woody nodded at Moana, who nodded back. It was time to go. The two toys opened the door a few inches and ran out.
Due to the sheer amount of people in the tunnels, the two had to freeze a few times. Most people, in their rush to get from one part of the tunnels to another, completely ignored the toys. The few who did see them only gave them a quick glance of confusion before moving on.
