{Dani's POV}

{Outside Dani's house}

{6:05pm}

It was sunset, and with every second that passed the sun disappeared further over the tree and on the horizon.

I stood waiting, as I did I started to worry, what if he doesn't show?

What if this was just another joke to him?

It was getting darker and darker.

I sat on the front steps of my house as I watched the street lights come on.

He was standing me up.

I wanted to cry, but I just took a deep breath and turned to go inside, I threw my backpack over my shoulder.

I was so angry, I brought my good cigarettes to share with him and he had forgotten, or maybe he didn't forget, he just wanted to embarrass me.

As I reached for my door knob I heard a car race down my street and come to a screeching stop.

I turned and I fought back the happy dance I wanted to do because he showed up.

Eddie sprung out of the car holding a fistful of flowers, they were small, purple and yellow with the roots still attached.

"Sorry i'm a little late, the flower store was closed."

He reached the flowers out to me. "I had to improvise."

I laughed a little bit and took the flowers, they were super pretty for being from the side of the road.

"Well, it's the thought that counts right?" I smiled at him and he smiled back.

"Well princess," He said as he gave me a bow.

"Your chariot awaits." He motioned his hand to the car that was still running, he drove a van.

Mostly black with a big white rectangle down the side, loud rock music blared on his stereo.

I nodded and started walking, as soon as I did he attached himself at my hip.

"So uh Iron Maiden! You like them?" I looked at him, caught off guard with how casual and nice he was being, it was so much different than when we met.

"Yeah, I listen to them all the time. My dream is to play and tour with them one day." I spoke shyly as we crossed my front yard.

"Well, if you'd like I have all their greatest hits on cassette. We could listen to that." I nodded once more as I reached for the door handle.

Suddenly he swatted my hand and I drew it back quickly.

"Ow! Eddie! What the hell? Your rings hurt!"

He winced and started apologizing. "I-I'm sorry! I just didn't want the princess to have to open the door herself."

He smiled nervously and tugged the door handle to open it, I glared and got in as I rubbed my hand with my finger.

 I laid the flowers on my lap and waited for him to get in, I saw in the reflection of the side mirror he felt really bad.

He smacked himself in the forehead and walked around the side of the van.

It made me laugh, but I held it in once he got in the car.

I threw my backpack down on the ground and buckled my seatbelt.

He reached in front of me to his glove compartment.

His rings reflected off the streetlights, and his tattoos made my heart flutter.

He got out a cassette and took out the old one, putting in the new one.

He threw the other into the back and I just stared. "What?" He said catching my look.

"You like iron Maiden, so I'm putting it on for you."

I nodded as the music started playing, we both were bobbing our heads to the music.

We soared down the roads of Hawkins, trees on either side.

It felt like we were driving for an eternity.

"So," I started, trying to fill the moment. "What did you have in mind?"

He reached out the hand closest to me and intertwined our fingers.

"You'll see, it'll be nice, I promise." I nodded and kept his hand there, he was being so nice.

I liked this side of Eddie Munson.

{Eddie's POV}

{Eddie's Van}

{6:14pm}

Having her in my passenger seat felt unreal.

Having her hold my hand felt even more impossible.

I just keep thinking to myself  'Don't fuck this up, don't  fuck this up'.

I didn't know if she'd even like what I had planned. But I couldn't stop thinking about it.

I listened to the words of Iron Maiden but then Dani let go of my hand and was turning the volume down, "I uh, never thanked you."

She said looking down at her hands.

My heart stopped, "For, for what?" I said nervously, trying to hide my smile until I knew what she was saying.

"For having my back in the field," She started, "who knows what Jason and his goons would've done if you weren't there."

I smiled and grabbed her hand again. "Anytime. I always know what's going on, eyes everywhere."

She rolled her eyes, it was so cute.

"Plus, what you did to the basketball? Fucking amazing!"

She giggled and interlocked our fingers.

"Thanks, it's my older brothers blade, he gave it to me a long time ago." She gazed out the van window and hesitated, her tone changing quickly.

"..A really long time ago." She said choked up.

I started rubbing my thumb against her hand, something happened there.

"Well, he had impeccable taste." I said, trying not to pry.

"Yeah, it was his lucky hunting knife, his favorite to carve with too."

She got quieter, I wasn't going to push.

Even if she didn't tell me now, I wanted to know.

I wanted to help.
