It was night, Aang and Zuko had just gotten back from seeing the firebending masters. They are relaxing beside a fire that Zuko had lit. Sokka stands, "Hey Zuko, can I talk to you?" Sokka stands as he asks his question, Zuko looks up from the tray he was serving tea from and nods. They both walk away just out of ear shot from the rest of the group. "What do you want to talk about?", "I was wondering if you knew where they were taking the war prisoners from the invasion."
Zuko leans on the wall beside him, thinking for a second, "Azula said that they were taking the prisoners to The Boiling Rock.", "What exactly is The Boiling Rock?"
"The highest security prison in the Fire Nation." Sokka looks at him, horrified. "It's on an island in the middle of a boiling lake." A shocked expression appears on Sokka's face. Sokka going back to Zuko's earlier statement. "Why did she tell you that?".
Zuko sighs, "She wanted to rub it in my face, that I would never see Aunt Tera again." At that Sokka sighs, and a smirk appears on his face, "How would you feel about a prison break?".
Later that night after everyone had gone to sleep, Sokka and Zuko left on the weather balloon, not noticing that Momo had hitched a ride with them.
After some awkward silence the two started talking, "If there's one thing my dad's good at, it's war." Zuko tells Sokka as he blasts more fire into the tank. "Yeah, it seems to run in the family." Zuko looks at Sokka, defensively. "Hey, hold on. Not everyone in my family is like that.", "I know, I know, you changed" Zuko folds his arms and rests up against the side of the airship, "I meant my uncle and my aunt. They were more like parents to me. And I really let them down." "I think they would be proud of you. Leaving your home to come help us? That's hard." Their conversation died down.
"Hey Sokka..." "Yeah?" "Did you notice that The lemear sneaked onto the balloon?" "...WHAT!!!"
After the threes unexpected landing at the prison, they waited until morning and entered the prison and quit quickly finding the supply room full of reserved guard uniforms, the both put on a set of guard uniform. Before they exited the room Zuko looks at Momo who is tightly clinging to his shoulder, "Do you think you can stay close by until we find Sokka's dad and Aunt Ter'' Momo nods simply understanding what he was asked to do and flys off.
After Sokka and Zuko's adventfull introduction to the prison, throwing someone in a cooler, It's meal time for the guards in the prison, Zuko is noticeably the only guard still wearing a helmet. To cover his scar. Once he gets his lunch he goes and sits at a table with two other guards who are obviously extremely relaxed. "Hey, new guy! I know it's the rule to have your helmet on at all times, but this is the lounge. Relax." "But what if there's an incident? If I'm not prepared, someone could strike me on the head." Zuko is making up an excuse for not taking off his helmet. The guards laugh.
"Give it a week, he'll loosen up." "Can the new guy ask you veterans a few questions about the prison?". The female guard looks at him, "Yeah sure, go ahead." "The Boiling Rock, it holds the Fire Nation's most dangerous criminals, right?" The guards nod, he continues "So what about war prisoners?".
It is the male guard who answers him this time. "Yeah we hold aar prisoners there's a shipment of them coming in tomorrow". The female guard leans in, indicating the other two to lean in as well, in a whisper she tells the two, "I heard a rumour from some of the higher ups, apparently the wife of the dragon of the west, was captured in Ba Sing Se by the prince and princess." The male guard looks at her in shock, "really?" "Yeah and apparently she's coming in with the new transfers." The fellow guard looks at her in fear, Zuko looking confused.
He asks the two guards, "Why what did she do?. The guards look at him in shock, "You don't know?" "No". "She killed the Fire Lord's wife". Zuko freezes in shock.
Zuko stands up saying goodbye to the guards, and starts to walk towards the yard.
In the yard, Zuko approaches a guard having no idea that it is Sokka. "Hey there, fellow guard, how goes it?". Sokka lifts his helmet visor. "Zuko" he asks. "Shhh! Listen, I asked around the lounge. There's going to be a transfer of war prisoners later tomorrow, your father may be with them." " That's good" Sokka has a bright smile on his face. Sokka's eyes widened and he noticed something; his already cheerful expression intencavayed. Sokka runs and grabs the railing next to him, excitedly looking down to the yard below. Sokka points down to the yard. "It's Suku!" "Who?" Suki, sitting in the prison yard in prison garb, looks up at hearing the continuous ringing of a bell. "Prisoners," Suki stands up. "back in your cells!" Suki walked back to her cell.
After Sokka and Suki's loving reunion, Zuko somehow gets arrested and imprisoned in the boiling rock. And being talked down by the warden for breaking Mai's heart.
Sokka had come up with the idea to use a cooler as a makeshift boat to sail across the boiling water to escape the prison, and later that night they decided to put their plan into motion, but at the last minute to stay having remembered that his dad was coming the next morning. But Sokka's original plan had failed. The prisoners they were going to escape became impatient and started to boat across the boiling lake, but one of the prisoners burned their hand on the water and screamed, causing the guards to take notice and pull them in.
After the prisoners were captured, Sokka, Suki and Zuko were in the yard looking out for the gondola which was coming towards the prison.
"Come on! Come on! They have to be there!". The gondola door opens, a large man with a tattoo and nose ring comes off first. "Is that him?" Zuko asked. "My dad doesn't have a nose ring." A few more people walk out of the gondola, Hakoda being the last person to get out. "There he is", Zuko asks "If that's your father, where is aunt Ter." All three of them look worriedly at the gondola door.
A male guard shouts "Hey, you! Get off the gondola!" Tera steps out of the door covered in chains wearing the normal prison uniform, a red tattered shirt and trousers.
All three looked shocked with the amount of chains Tera has on. Zuko whispers, "Tera."
