Sonic placed the last of the supplies in the Tornado's side container and closed it shut. The blue blur slumped against the side of the plane and gazed up at the clear sky. In all honesty, he was ready to get out of Knothole. Yes, he had missed all of his old friends, but it was time to move on to their true destination. Robotropolis.

Home. Just the mere thought of it made his heart ache in a way that he hadn't felt in a long time. He was a little surprised that he missed the city, even with its forever dark skies and foreboding metal towers. A part of him wished that he could have seen what it looked like before Robotnik took over.

He realized that something felt different about this adventure. The time had finally come for the prophecy to be completed. Eggman's empire would fall to the Council of Four, or they would die fighting to their last breath. This wasn't just another race to save the world and return to Green Hills, and deep down, he knew that he couldn't outrun fate. But boy would he try.

"Everything ready, Sonic?" Tails called, snapping the azure hedgehog out of his thoughts. Sonic gave him a signature smile and wink.

"All set and ready to go! You sure you don't need me to switch out with you on this one? I can fly the Tornado for the last stretch."

The fox kit shook his head. "Thanks, but I'm good. Besides, if Eggman attacks again, it would be great if we could keep the pilot in the plane."

Sonic chuckled, "Fair point. Just let me know if you start getting tired, and we'll swap. We got a long ways to go."

Tails cocked his head as Sonic's eyes took on a contemplative sheen. His adoptive big brother was clearly in deep thought, which wasn't something he saw often.

      "Sonic? Are you okay?"

"Of course, little buddy," he replied, "Why do you ask?"

The young inventor swished his twin namesakes. "Well, it's just...you're acting a little weird."

The blue hero waved a hand dismissively. "Ah, don't worry about it, bro. I guess I'm just ready to go home."

"It's been a while since you've been there, hasn't it?"

"Sure has," he answered, and a hopeful shine replaced the deep thought in his eyes. The familiar light caused Tails to smile genuinely.

"Then we better get going if we're going to make it in time!"

Sonic couldn't help but laugh at the kid's enthusiasm, and he gave a thumbs up. "You said it! Come on, let's go round up the others."

Before Tails could blink, Sonic had scooped him up in his arms and dashed off in a vibrant streak. The kit's frantic yells blurred into whoops of excitement that spurred him to go faster.

"Meet at the plane! It's time to go!" they would take turns shouting to everyone they passed by. Those that had to leave with them cheered and rushed back to their respective huts to make sure they didn't forget anything or ran straight to the plane. Those that were staying behind went to the Tornado as well to see them off.

It didn't take long for everyone to congregate around the high tech plane, sharing hugs and saying their farewells. The Knothole Freedom Fighters were sure to give Sonic a very hearty goodbye. Rotor actually had tears in his eyes as he scooped the blue hedgehog in a tight hug. The eldest triplet scrunched his eyes shut and gripped the walrus fiercely. The hefty mechanic had been like an older brother to him in the past, and the young prince wouldn't deny the fact that he was fighting tears himself.
