Eddie passes the cafeteria, planning on eating out in his van with Robin. It was the first day back at school. It was the first day in like, a whole week Eddie had gone this many hours of the day without seeing Steve. When he reaches his van, he unlocks it and sits down. He rests his head against the seat and closes his eyes. The sun shines through the windsheild, heating the vehicle up. Eddie was enjoying the good weather while it lasts, it was supposed to rain this week.
He is pulled out of his trance by a knock on the window. Robin is at the drivers' side door. He opens the door to greet her but she hops into the van and over his lap. He nearly gets a foot in the face.
"Buckles, why don't you just use the other door?" She shrugs.
"It's too much walking, your door is closer to the school." He rolls his eyes and chuckles at her. The two sat in his van, talking and talking. They talked about the people in their classes, how they haven't changed.
"You can tell who slept with who, over the break." Eddie says, as he eats his sandwich. "The way one of them looks at the other, expecting the other to look at them like that back, only to be heavily dissapointed. One thought it was a serious relationship, the other, a one or two night stand" he finishes with his mouth full.
Robin smiles at him. She thinks for a second, also eating away at her lunch. He always had the most intersting things to say, she noticed. She turns to the man beside her. "Hey Eddie?" he looks over.
"Yeah?"
"I think you should tell him."
"What? who? tell who what?" she sighs at his obliviousness.
"I think you should tell Steve." Eddie's mouth falls open.
"Whaaaaattttt?" His voice goes high and he tries to avoid eye contact. Robin laughs at him, yet again. "I see the way you look at him, Munson." Eddie's face flushes. Is he that obivous? Robin reaches for his shoulder, reassuring him.
"Y-yeah but I would never tell him he's not-"
"But I also see the way he looks at you, Eddie. So I think you should tell him. Or at least talk to him about like, I don't know-" She gave a small chuckle at the irony placed in before her. Eddie is identifying relationship statuses and feelings from complete strangers, yet he thinks Steve is completely unatainable. "How long have you felt like this for him?" He thinks back to that Halloween party.
"Well I saw him for the first time two years ago at a party. I had heard of his name before, but never seen him. And so there I was, in the corner, when he walked by me. I was stunned. I had never seen anything so, beautiful, so masculine. He hurt my eyes in a good way. A few months later I realized that he wasn't leaving my head anytime soon, and that I was definitely falling for him." When he finishes, Robin is beaming at him. She found the way he talked about Steve so pure.
"Tell me about him. Tell me what makes you like him most." She's polite and genuinely wants to hear what he has to say. Eddie smiles, feeling his stomach twist and turn.
"He's hot, no he's beautiful. He has this pure attractiveness to him. When he sits behind the counter in the mornings, his voice is always fuzzy and lazy. His eyes never cease to amaze me. A-and the way he's just a few inches taller than me. And oh my god his hair." He stops for air. Robin opens her mouth to react, give him an answer but he keeps going.
"And not only is he physically- fascinating, he cares, Robin, he cares. And if he wants to know something, he will ask you. h-he asks and cares and he listens to your favourite song. He is literally the best person in the entire world and nobody deserves him, he's so perfect."Eddie's face burns as he smiles sheepishly at Robin.
"Oh my god you are cute Eddie Munson. I am so relieved to find someone who admires him like you do Eddie. I was afraid nobody ever would, as awful as that sounds." Eddie feels guilty. He thinks that there is no way Steve would want to ever be with him. He would probably rather die than touch Eddie.
"No he doesn't like me back, so that doesn't even matter." He frowns. Robin is now the guilty one, as she brought that topic up. So she brings up an article she read about rabies. Eddie laughs at her and her weird hyperfixation on rabies. They sit in his van finishing lunch. From across the property they hear a few discordant chimes indicating their next class was starting in a few minutes.
"Shit" Eddie says. "This can't be my year if I'm late to class!" He packs all his stuff up and hops out, Robin swiftly following suit. She is shoving stuff into her bag, whilst simultaniously pulling things out for her next class. The two are close to the front doors in which Robin reaches to enter.
"Robin?" She turns around.
"I'll talk to him." Eddie nods. She gives a nod of approval in return, running out of sight.
